Chapter seventy
I look to my left and right as we drive down the road. There are more gates to either side with big ass houses behind them. I mean FULL driveways with limos in them and three-story houses with fountains and shit. I'm in DISBELIEF.
"You're parents live here?" I squeak.
"No. They live at the end," he says casually. I stare out the window in awe at the beautiful houses.
"Who lives here?" I ask in wonder.
"You know, rich people. Ashton Kutcher actually lives next to my parent's house,"269Please respect copyright.PENANA1il2R0AjPR
My mouth drops open.
"What?! Aston fucking Kutcher?!"
"Yeah, he's actually a really nice guy. We went to his Christmas party. Saw Mila Kunis, his wife, and a whole bunch of other people,"
"What the hell Matt?!"
He drives up to a gate. There's a little keypad next to it.
He types in some numbers and the gate opens revealing a large house with a full cul-de-sac and a bunch of palm trees and shit in the driveway as well as a fountain and two limos plus a fucking Lamborghini.
"My dad likes cars. Don't ask me," he says.
"This is where they live?'
"Yup,"
He pulls up to the front of the house and parks the car.
There are at least fifteen windows on the front of the house.
The fountain, in the middle of the cul-de-sac, is surrounded by pretty flowers and greenery.
"How big is this place?"
"Twenty bedrooms, sixteen full bathrooms, six half-bathrooms, a pool, a pool house, a gym, a two-story guest house, which is completely useless, a tennis court, a jogging trail, a garden, and a four-acre backyard," he finishes.
"Wow. It's beautiful," I say.
"Eh," he replies. "This place is nothing compared to your beauty,"
I look at him shyly as he smiles at me.
"Come on. My mom asked me to drop by before we do what I have planned,"
I get out of the car as Matt does and we walk up to the large door. There's a beautiful arch entrance that I absolutely adore. It really makes this place look....expensive. As if it isn't ridiculously expensive.
Matt opens the door and we walk in. The floors are shining and there are two large staircases opposite of each other.
Matt takes my hand.
"Mami! Nosotros estamos aqui!" he shouts into the house. It smells really good in here. Someone's obviously been cooking.
He leads me down the hallway and past a gorgeous living room with a bunch of really expensive-looking art and vases.
I hear chattering in Spanish, coming from, what I believe is, the kitchen.
Everyone looks up as we walk in.
I see Jon and two women. One of the women looks similar to Jon and the other, Essie, looks exactly like Matt. Uh oh. Jon. I forgot he was gonna be here.
So fucking awkward. He specifically told me to stay away from Matt and I told him I would.
Now here I am, doing exactly what he told me not to.
"Mi hijo esta aqui!" Matt's mom yells.
"Callate la boca Essie. El es mio tambien," another lady says. She is sitting in a chair that is next to the breakfast island. Jon is standing there half-smiling, half-frowning.
Matt's mom pulls Matt into a bear hug. He kisses her cheek lightly as she lets go.
"Come here, Novah," she gestures.
She hugs me and kisses my cheek.
"Hi, Essie!" I say excitedly. "It's so nice to finally meet you,"
She releases me from her embrace.
"You too! Matt has been going off at the mouth about you!"
I laugh as Matt goes and greets another lady, with glasses and dark hair, Jon's mom.
I walk over to where Jon's mom is sitting.
"Hi, I'm Jon's mother," she says and pulls me in for a hug. I hug her back.
"Hello," I say with a smile.
I walk over to Jon and hug him.
"They're all so friendly. Where'd Matt go wrong?" I whisper into Jon's ear as I'm hugging him.
He laughs. "Nobody knows,"
I go to where Matt is seated.
Matt quickly takes my hand when I sit down in the seat.
I look at his face. He looks slightly troubled.
I lean close to him. "You okay?" I ask.
"Yeah," he says and kisses me quickly.
"What's all the commotion?!" I hear a southern accented-man say.
I turn and see a tall man with brown hair, with slivers of gray walk into the kitchen
He has hazel eyes and a fit body. He's wearing a long-sleeved white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up and the top two buttons unbuttoned.
Matt looks similar to him but resembles his mom more.
Matts dad walks over to me. I stand up. He holds out his hand.
"I'm Tom, Matt's old man," he says with a wide smile and a thick southern accent. His eyes crinkle at the corners just like Matt's.
"Hello Tom," I say and smile back at him, shaking his hand. I let go of his hand and sit back down in the seat. He passes Matt, patting him on the back.
"Hey, ol' sport,"
"Dad," he replies, rather coldly.
Matt places his hand on my thigh. I look at him. He looks a bit uneasy.
"Matt are you okay?" I ask again.
"Yeah, I'm fine," He stands up and walks over to his mom. He says something to her and she nods her head. She says something back. They hug.
He walks back over to me.
"C'mon Novah,"
"But we just got here," I protest.
"There are other things I want to do with you, besides sitting here," he says in a somewhat harsh tone.
"Okay," I back down. "Let me go say goodbye to everyone,"
He rolls his eyes and stands there, crossing his arms. "Go," he says and nods his head towards everyone.
I walk up to his mom. "It was a pleasure meeting you!" I say to her with a wide smile.
"Yes, baby, come back anytime," she says. I give her a quick hug.
"I will as soon as I can," I say to her.
"Okay, baby. You drive home safe," she kisses me on the cheek.
I walk over to Matt's dad.
"We're going now, but it was a pleasure meeting you,"
"Oh no darling, you're an angel. Matt never comes to these things. How'd you get him to come?"
"I didn't. He brought me here,"
"Well, you're welcome to stay here whenever. We have a million empty rooms so feel free,"
"I will be back!" I say. I lean in and hug him.
I walk over to Jon's mom.
"Bye Mrs...."
"Darla. Call me Darla, sweetie,"
"Darla. Your son is a sweetheart,"
"Which one?" she asks, laughing.
"Both of them,"
I hug her quickly and give Jon a quick hug as well before walking over to Matt.
He's standing in the same spot with his arms crossed like the grump he is.
He takes my hand and leads me towards the door. We walk down the long hallway into the living room, then out, down another hallway, and to the front door.
I pull back, stopping him from pulling me any further.
"Matt, why are we leaving?"
"Because. Now c'mon,"
He opens the door and we walk out of the front door. He takes his car keys out of his pocket and unlocks the car. We get into the car and he turns it on.
As I'm sitting in the car I start to sweat. It feels like hell in here. I think I'd forgotten that this is fucking California.
"Now, talk," I demand.
"There's nothing to talk about.," he dismisses.
He drives around the cul-de-sac and to the gate. The black gate opens and we drive out onto the road.
"Matt, what's wrong?"
I can tell he was uncomfortable there.
"Nothing, babe,"
His fingers tighten around the steering wheel. I place my hand on his thigh and squeeze.
"Okay. I love you," I say softly. Whatever is going through his mind, I want to put it to rest.269Please respect copyright.PENANAAHy8LBJkSG
"I love you too, baby," he says softly.
We pull up to the booth. The blockade raises and we drive through. "I have a surprise for you," he says with a smile on his face. "Well, a couple of surprises,"
I clap my hands together excitedly.
"Oooohhhh...."
His phone screen lights up. I look down at his phone and see my face on his lock screen.
I pick up his phone and slide the notification to the side to clear the screen.
I show the phone to him.
"What's this?" I ask with the widest grin I think I've ever had.
Its a picture of me the night of the carnival. I'm not even smiling. I'm just standing there.
"Oh, nothing. Just a picture I took," his face turns pink and I start to laugh.
"You have me as your lock screen photo?!" I shout while giggling.
He tries to snatch his phone back but I hold it out of his reach.
"Focus on the road," I say giggling.
He groans and puts both his hands back on the wheel.
"I like looking at your face every time I turn on my phone,"
I smile.
"God, you're so fucking sweet sometimes,"
He starts turning red and I smile.
His phone buzzes and I look down at it. I see the name Mia on the screen. Never heard of her.
Hey, Matt. Wanna come over? The text from "Mia" says.
"Matt, who is Mia?"
He looks at me, his eyes clouding with worry and his eyebrows furrow.
"What happened?"
I turn the phone screen towards him.
He halts the car at the red light.
He snatches the phone from me and looks down at the screen.
"Nobody, just a girl I used to hang out with,"
"Hang out with?! You mean fuck?"
"I don't fuck her anymore,"
"God damn it, Matt! How many women have you slept with?!"
"It doesn't matter,"
"How do I know you're not still with her?"
He turns and looks at me eyebrows risen, looking at me like I'm insane.
"I'm not with anyone else! Here look at the fucking texts,"
He opens the messages and hands me the phone.
I scroll upwards.
Seems like they haven't texted in a while. The last time they did was a month ago before this text she sent him.
I exhale and continue scrolling up.
A picture shows up in the texts......of a naked woman, presumably Mia.
"MATT WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?!" I throw the phone at him.
He pulls the car onto the side of the road and puts it in 'park'.
He looks down at the phone.
"She sent me nudes, so what? It was over a month ago,"
"Why haven't you deleted them?"
"I haven't even opened those texts in a fucking while,"
"Matt her naked body is in those texts! Delete them! Now!"
"Okay. Goddamn,"
"And delete her number," I add.
"Okay, alright,"
His fingers move around on the screen for a few more seconds.
"There you go,"
"Hand me the phone,"
He hands me the phone and runs his hands through his hair.
I go scroll through his contacts. No "Mia"
I throw the phone at him and look out the window.
He sighs exasperatedly.
"Are you mad at me?" he asks.
"No. I'm fine. You can keep driving,"
"No, I can't. Look at me,"
I turn and look at him.
"That was before I even met you. I only want you, okay?"
I sigh. "How many women have you slept with, Matt?"
He sighs. "A bunch, but none of them make me feel the way you do. Why else would I be acting like a fucking crazy person over you?"
I sigh again. "I guess......"
He takes my hand. "No, don't look sad. I want you to be happy today. With me,"
"Okay,"
He grabs my arm and pulls me onto his lap.
No choice but to be face to face.
"We're not moving until I know you're happy,"
"I am, Matt," I try and move off his lap but he extends his arms out around either side of me, touching the steering wheel.
I look out the window. People, in their cars, are staring at us.
"Matt, people are staring!"
"I couldn't give two shits about anybody but you. Now look at me and tell me you're okay,"
Fuck. I'm embarrassed right now. People are staring at us as I'm sitting on Matt's lap, in his car, on the side of the road, like a whore.
I'm looking around frantically.
"Okay, Matt. I'm okay, I forgive you. Now let me gooooo....."
"No. You're a liar,"
I start giggling.
"No, I'm notttttt.........."
"C'mon beautiful, don't lie to me," he says and kisses my neck.
I start giggling like a little girl.
"I'm not mad at you, Matt. I promise,"
I look him in the eye. We just stare into each other's eyes for a little longer,
"Okay. But don't play that shit again," he kisses me quickly and moves his arms, so I can move.
I climb back over the console. Matt smacks my ass.
"That's what I fucking thought," he mumbles under his breath.
"And you're welcome to send me nudes any day. I'll make that my fucking lock screen,"
I laugh. "Yeah, right. Over my dead body,"
He looks both ways before pulling back out onto the road.
"How bout' for my birthday?"
"Mmmmm....maybe,"
He laughs. "Good enough,"
