Chapter three
I pull into the parking lot of the University of California- Los Angeles, parking my car in an available spot. I wonder if I’ll like my new roommate.
I don’t have a lot of things. Just personal items like my toothbrush, makeup, clothes, and then some things to decorate. I was lucky enough to get a nice dorm room.
It was kind of like a going-away gift from my rich aunt. She has her hand in every pot that exists.
The nicest one available has a giant window and is a bit bigger than the others.
I’m excited to meet my new roommate and I’m crossing my fingers that she likes me and vice versa because I literally can’t switch rooms.
My aunt had to pull some strings to get it for me. It's not too close to the public bathrooms either. Ew, I know right?
Anyone can just walk into my stall and “accidentally” see me naked. And I know that boys my age are not only horny but sort of perverted at times.
I was especially sad about my best friend, Joshua. I’m gonna miss him so much. He’s been there for me through thick and thin. He’s going to an east coast college. I really hope that we can maintain our friendship while being so far away.
We wanted to go to very different colleges so we had to part ways.
He’s the sweetest, kindest, most gentle, loving person that you’ll ever meet. I really don’t deserve him. Josh has been the rock in my life and even though I have a lot of friends and close friends, he will always be my number one. I will always care about him in a way that I can’t care about anyone else. He’s seen me at my absolute worst and my best. My most fragile and vulnerable. I will more than just miss him.
I step out of my car, taking only my phone and purse. I want to meet my roommate before I bring in all my belongings. In my hand is the piece of paper that lists all my housing information.
2nd floor, room 132. I walk up to the building, open the doors, and walk into the room.
I’m really disappointed that my mom couldn’t be here today. She was so booked up this entire week with important events, for work. She couldn’t have possibly cancel. I understand, though.
Although I’m disappointed, I understand.
The building is loud and bustling, filled with parents and their college-bound kids. I’m kind of embarrassed to be here, on my first day, all alone, but It's out of my control.
I walk into what looks like a lobby area.
It's filled with people pushing and shoving just to get through. It's really loud in here.
One of the first things I see is an area where the elevators are. Then there are two other doors which I’m guessing, lead to the dorm rooms and showers, which are located downstairs too.
Those are on either side of the elevator area. There’s also another door in the elevator area which has a supervisor sign on it. I walk through the crowd to the elevator area. I press the button and wait. There are a lot of other people waiting in front of the elevator as well.
It's really awkward. After about five minutes, one of the two elevators opens up. A bunch of people immediately rush into the elevators. I quickly make my way into the already stuffed elevator. The elevator whirs to life, making a weird and concerning buzzing noise. It's stuffy in here, the way most elevators are. The elevator stops and opens up to a busy hallway. Definitely not as packed as downstairs. I walk out of it and down the hallway, bumping into quite a few people. I walk further down the hall and turn left.
128 ........129........130.......131.......132. Here we are.
The door is ajar. I walk in and see a pretty blonde girl bickering with her parents.
"Hi, I'm Skylar Moore." She holds out her hand and I take it with a friendly smile.
"I'm Novah Nelson." we shake hands.
"Nice to meet you. I'm sooo excited for this year! I'm really looking forward to getting to know you. Hopefully, we'll be besties by the end of the year." Skylar says. She's so bubbly and excited and I would usually hate that about someone but it really fits her. She has thick, wavy blonde hair, bright green eyes, and a wide, inviting smile. She's really pretty. I instantly decide that I like her. She moves aside and her mom pulls me in for a cordial hug. She smiles a motherly smile.
"I'm Skylar's mom, Angelica." I take her hand
"Nice to meet you, Angelica," I reply
Skylar's Dad steps in front of me.
"Dave," he says and I shake his hand. "Watch this one. She can be a real firecracker." he jokes
"Dad!" Skylar scolds and rolls her eyes.
"I hope you two will feel welcome here. Where are your parents, honey?" Angelica asks.
"Oh, my mom couldn't make it. She was really busy this week and couldn't cancel. She would've loved to meet you guys though."
"Well, it was a pleasure to meet you. Honey, can you give Novah our numbers?" Angelica asks her daughter. Skylar playfully rolls her eyes for probably the hundredth time since her parents started talking.
"Okay, mom. I will. Can you go now? We'll be fine." Skylar sounds exactly like a teenage girl. Angelica consumes Skylar in a hug.
"Have fun, Honey. Stay safe and text me every day. Your father too." she tells Skylar. She moves to me and gives me a brief hug. "If you ever need anything, call us. It was very nice meeting you." Angelica tells me. I smile at her.
Skylar's Dad turns to me.
"Don't say I didn't warn ya. Sky can be quite a handful."
"Dad!" Skylar scolds again. "You guys are so annoying sometimes," she says dramatically.
"Bye girls. Have fun and be good." Angelica says. They treat me like their actual daughter. It's slightly uncomfortable but sweet and sincere. Just like actual parents. I like them a lot. Skylar quickly shoos them out the door.
"I'm sorry. That was the most painful thing I've ever experienced in my entire life," she says dramatically.
"So are you from here?" Skylar asks and starts unpacking all her things from the boxes she brought.
Oh shit! My stuff! I completely forgot.
"I'm from Florida. I have to go get my stuff out of the car real quick. Be right back."
"Oh! Go ahead!" she smiles her radiant smile and I rush out the door. Her smile reminds me of that of a celebrity. I walk out the door and down the hall and to the right, towards the elevator.
I press the button and wait, patiently.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see a tall figure approach. I turn and see a breathtakingly hot guy. He has a built and muscular frame. His arms are completely covered with black ink, tattoos. Metal piercings shine in the light, on his face. Specifically, his right eyebrow, nose, and under his bottom lip.
His eyes are a beautiful autumn green. What bothers me is I can't figure out what's going on behind his eyes. What's going on in his mind. His face is completely void of emotion. Maybe, nonchalance or indifference but that's about it.
He walks past me and into the elevator.
Shit! The doors opened.
I quickly walk in.
God, I completely mentally checked out, as I was checking out this guy. The elevator door closes on the two of us. The guy doesn't say a single thing. He doesn't smile at me, ask me how my day's going. Nothing. No sort of acknowledgment. Kind of rude, if you ask me.
The tension elevates as my eyes drift between his legs where I see his protruding bulge.
I quickly stop looking down there.
The doors ease open and I have to stop myself from bolting out. I walk out slowly, refraining from taking a second glance at the stunning stranger.
The guy takes one more small glance and turns in the other direction.
