Clairaudience is an easy ability to understand, but a difficult one to study compared to its sister of Clairvoyance. Clairaudience has much of all the same properties of Clairvoyance including the possible variations involved (range, simple versus advanced, and time-frame reference differences). The only real difference is the echo-return data consisting of sound rather than sight. Because of what the AVPSI already knows on advanced clairvoyance from Altiri Scryers, they are fully aware that clairaudience is a real ability that can be demonstrated, but there is a problem. The Altiri who can use advanced clairvoyance and not simple clairvoyance are totally incapable of separating the sight and sound from their natural ability, whereas humans seem to have the opposite issue. The prospect of clairaudience can only be studied in a limited fashion within Altiri Scions because of this inability to separate the two senses from their one ability; it’s as if they cannot help but combine the two together. When isolated, clairaudience is an ability used to obtain all sound information from a target psionically with no visual or sight involved in the echo-return data. Because of this, regardless of which variation of time reference is used, it can actually be much more difficult for that scion to prove their own ability to others or even themself. Visual data is a lot easier to examine than audio-only information. There are less visual clues involved, and a lot remains up to the idea of guessing whose voice belongs to who. What’s more, while a clairvoyant would usually need a very specific target in mind before performing their ability, the clairaudient can often achieve their result only by selecting a location without a specific person in mind, often by starting from a reference point in which the emotional buildup of their collective thought dynamics exceeds normal parameters, making it easier for something to accidentally be picked up and focused on. {In other words, clairaudience users must first target and connect to a powerful Psi-Field before beginning to select targets for this ability}. Despite these challenges and the rarity of clairaudience being naturally present in ordinary people (who are potential scions), the AVPSI does have a couple of proven references of targets who were studied to have confirmed clairaudient abilities. However, information about the ability from these two unnamed individuals was difficult to ascertain, since the AVPSI never had any direct involvement in helping them to understand and master their abilities. Clairaudience is a strange ability for a number of reasons. It uses less energy than clairvoyance, yet is far rarer to occur naturally in its isolated state. The Altiri commonly claim that isolated clairaudience is therefore a very rare ability. However, Scryers disagree with this assessment, and counterclaim that clairaudience is instead just as common as clairvoyance, though seldom discovered due to its difficult-to-prove nature. They suggest that plenty of other people are born with the power, but struggle to understand or believe in the ability, and therefore do not pay the potential ability any real attention or merit.
