We spent some time waking through the property for around an hour and a half. It's large and we wanted to get a thorough idea of how it would work for us.

Everything is open plan and airy, lots of open spaces in all of the main living spaces. I love that the corridors leading you through the house are all decorated with art.

We lingered in the nursery for a while which had been used by the previous homeowners. A baby boy, whose room had clouds and rainbows painted around the walls. Jay caught my eye as I stared down into the little crib, positioned in front of the large bay window looking out onto the gardens.

Once we're in the car and driving down the long drive it dawns on me that this will be ours. I glance over at Jay and he smiles.

When we eventually reach the lake house it feels smaller somehow. We park up in our familiar garage and walk hand in hand yo to the small door that lead into the kitchen. Small steps at the back of the garage allow us to walk straight into our home without having to step outdoors.

I pace back to the car and then stop before getting in. Pacing back to the door more quickly, I stop in my tracks when I hear footsteps behind me. I whirl around taking in the gloomy garage. It strikes me that I've lived here for several months yet I still don't know where everything is and I curse myself for being so unobservant. Garages usually have hammers and mallets and tools which would be handy for me to arm myself with right this very moment.

I've got to be proactive, yet I don't want to alert my intruder and let him or her know that I am aware of them. I want this person to think that I'm completely unaware and unable to protect myself. Which is something I am totally sure that I can do. I have faith in myself all be it perhaps wrongly placed. I will protect myself in any way that I can.

Creaking from my right draws me back into the here and now and I move slowly towards the car. I don't know what weapons this intruder may have and I would like some cover from potential shots fired my way.

I edge in between the car and the side of the garage, I've chosen the 4x4 to take cover and I wedge myself tightly between it and the wall. Inconspicuous or not it's better than getting shot.

"Yeah just a load of cars" a male voice says as I reach inconspicuously under the 4x4 trying to fin anything that will help me, a hammer or a wrench. Anything. Even a set of pliers will do.

"Alright then we're done" another male voice says slightly older than the other one. Definitely two men in this garage with me. They are closer now I can hear their steps just a few yards away from me and I shrink down further into the dark.
Just as my hand makes contact with something metal under the 4x4 the garage goes quiet, no more steps as the metal object clinks under the car and I feel the men turn their stares on me. I hide myself. So much for protecting myself at all costs. But even I know that I'm unable to take on two men.

Dark hair that is cut short, older than I had thought. I would place him at around mid thirties. Dark navy jacket and deep set eyes I think before he brushes my lips with his hands again.

He yelps staggering backwards and I take that as my chance. I do have a secret weapon, the metal rod that I now pull out from behind the car. As he looks at me betrayed, I swing it directly at the abhorrent man that just tried to rape me. He's bent over in front of me gripping at his balls in pain and my metal rod clocks him right on the top of his head. He falls to the floor and I run straight up the stairs to the door. No hesitation and I am gone in search of Jay.
