“Hey, Infinity, wait up!” Cameo dashed after a seething Infinity.
The rest of the day had passed by fairly quickly, and all of the teens were showing great promise in these first skills. Infinity had avoided Cameo after the incident with Holly, and now he was feeling her lack of presence. When he had sat down in the storage bay after they had decided to quit, he began shaking and crying and he couldn’t figure out why. When Infinity walked past the bus, it hit him like a ton of bricks. He missed her, and more than that, he needed her. Now, he was going to try to get her back.
“What do you want?” She growled. “Why don’t you go flirt with Emma now? Are you planning on having a make-out fest with Holly tonight? Oh, you know what, I bet you’re going to start dating Thomas’s girlfriend now. Am I right?” Cameo grimaced.
“I realize I deserved most of that, but I'm sorry. I don’t know what happened.”
“You don’t know what happened?! You were flirting with Holly Carter. You might not know when you’re flirting, but I do, and believe me, it hurts.” She started crying. “Just go. It’s fine. It’s not like you signed a contract.” He flinched away as he remembered the first time he kissed her. She had gotten angry, and he had said those same words. Now she was angry because he had flirted with another girl.
Steeling his nerves, he grabbed her around the waist and kissed her hard, pressing every forgotten memory, unspoken word, and unknown apology into it. He could feel her disappointment and fury; it rolled off of her in waves, but he kissed her on and on, into the night, until he had proven that he wouldn’t be kissing anyone else, not tonight. When her tears had stopped, he whispered into her mouth.
“You are the only one. You will always be the only one.” He cupped her chin in his hands. “I will do everything I can to prove that.” She brushed his hair out of his eyes and smiled.
“Okay.”
“No, I'm serious. I wi- wait what?”
She laughed and kissed the corner of his lips, sighing into him. “I missed this.”
“You were mad at me for a grand total of four hours.”
“I know.”
He frowned. “I really am sorry. I feel terrible.”
She pressed her lips to his mouth. “Shh. You're forgiven.” He moaned, the sound full of hunger. She pressed her hands to his stomach, taking all she could get in this one moment of lust.
A loud clap sounded behind them and they jumped, flinging apart. Tanner’s friend, Thomas Seaton Wilson, was slow-clapping, staring at them with a self-satisfied smirk on his face.
“Good show. Can we get a little more physical with the next one?”
“Shut up, Thomas,” Cameo snarled, a string of Russian following. “What do you want, you нехороший сын придурка!”
“I’m assuming those weren’t very endearing terms, were they?”
“ты злой маленький отродье!”
“Hey, calm down you two,” Infinity said, stepping between the feuding boys. Thomas stepped closer and ran his finger down her cheek.
“You are beautiful, aren’t you?” He fingered her hair. Cameo stood gaping. Infinity clenched her jaw.
Cameo gritted his teeth and punched Thomas in the face. “Get away from her!” Thomas laughed, blood oozing from his nose.
“Oh, so possessive aren’t you? Fine,” he stepped back. “How’s this?”
“Not enough,” Cameo growled. “Back up.” Thomas stepped closer to Infinity. “Get away from her, Wilson.” He took another step. He leaned over Infinity and kissed her cheek. “Ты монстр! Отойди от нее или я оторву тебе голову!” He screamed bloody murder at Thomas. When he didn’t back up, he charged Thomas, flipping him on his back, pummeling into the ground. He howled in rage over Thomas’s body. It was shaking, and, after Cameo had heard a satisfying pop as he tore Thomas's leg out of it’s socket, his body uncurled from the fetal position and he was laughing. He was cackling.
“Oh, you are the swashbuckling, devil-may-care, perfect boyfriend.”
Cameo hissed and stepped toward him, knowing that all Thomas wanted was to get a rise out of him, and hating the fact that it had worked. And why was he so protective of Infinity anyway, when he was just going to-
Cameo gasped as the wind was knocked out of him. His legs had been kicked out from under him and he was wheezing in the dirt. He squinted, trying to figure out what happened. Tanner loomed above him.
“Ugh,” he sat up slowly. “What was that for?” Tanner was glaring at Thomas, who was still giggling on the ground.
“What is this joker doing on the ground?” Tanner asked, an idea already firmly implanted in his brain.
“Он собирался добраться до нее. Он собирался причинить ей боль! Я боялся за нее!” He was so scared for Infinity, he couldn’t form English sentences. Infinity dropped down next to him and looked up at Tanner.
“He was protecting me from him,” she gestured to Thomas, still prostrate on the ground.
“I can believe that,” Tanner growled. He turned to Thomas. “Idiot! Descendez du sol et revenez au bus. Je suis sûr que votre petite amie ne sera pas trop contente quand je lui dirai!”
“Ha! Tu es une blague. Vous n'avez pas le courage, et si vous l'aviez, elle ne s'en soucierait probablement pas. Ce n'est pas comme si c'était la première fois que je le faisais! Je n'arrive pas à croire que tu utilises le français.”
Cameo and Infinity watched this exchange with traces of confusion on their faces. Cameo turned to Infinity. “Why didn’t you run?”
“Because I knew you would protect me.”
“But what if I couldn't? What if I can't when we get to D.C.? What if he takes you hostage? What if we’re forced to turn you in?” He clapped a hand over his mouth. He hadn’t meant to say that last part and Infinity cast him a sidelong glance. She shook her head.
“Even if all that happened, I still believe you would come back for me. Just as I would for you.”
The yelling from the two boys got louder.
“Tu dois arrêter Thomas! Vous n'avez pas le droit de faire ce que vous venez de faire, ou ce que vous avez fait à beaucoup d'autres. Tu dois arreter!”
“Qui es-tu pour me dire quoi faire? Vous avez tout ce que vous pourriez souhaiter!”
“Vous pourriez aussi! Tu es trop égoïste pour le voir!”
“Oui en effet. Vous êtes une blague!”
“Can you two keep it down? We’re trying to make a game plan over here,” Holly complained, coming over to see what the commotion was about. “You’re making it very hard.” She walked over to Cameo and smiled alluringly. “Do you mind coming over to help us?”
Infinity frowned, so slightly that only Cameo noticed. He shook his head. “Sorry Holly.” He took Infinity’s hand. “I've got plans.”
