The Monster

I breathe the monster in,

Throw up in a bin.

It swirls in my lungs,

Consuming,

Contaminating me.

I want to quit,

But another one I hit.

I stand before the monster crowned a fool,

And challenge it to a duel.

I lose of course,

My voice is hoarse from the monster inside.

Breath in,

Exhale.

The same pattern every day,

I don’t know what to say,

When the monster is all I want,

All I need.

It has planted a tiny seed,

A seed in my mind that wants more.

More, more, more.

It grows more, more, more.

My lungs become sore.

It hurts after a while,

My hands shake,

And my bones quake.

The monster inside me grows hungry.

Fed,

But never satisfied.

The monster lures me in with promises of peace and happiness,

Then stabs me in the back and makes quite a mess.

The monster has a hold on me,

And I want to be free.

I want to quit,

But another one I hit.
