Suddenly we heard a squeal. We all looked over as another girl, possibly only 5 years of age, was dragged by the chains to another cell. She looked quite pretty with blue eyes and white-blonde hair, a blue-grey and white dress and grey shoes.
Suddenly, next to me, Jack squirmed uncomfortably.
The girl looked as if she was about to cry; and my heart leapt. We couldn't leave her like this...
The robot guard holding her chain yanked hard, and she screamed as the metal snake constricted her body, pulling ever tighter.
And then Jack was out of his chains.
In an instant he was in front of her, growling. A growling wolf protecting his wolf cub.
He took out the robot holding the chains, as well as at least a dozen of its friends, and as more were called, he released the girl and took her into his arms.
And that was when I realised that Jack had sort of... ruined the plan.
In a flash we were all running away from the robot mob. Again.
"Jack...!" I said somewhat breathlessly when we were safely hidden. "Why...?"
"I'm sorry," Jack whispered. "I had to."
"Who's the girl?" Dianne asked, tickling the child in Jack's arms.
"My sister," Jack replied, looking down at her. "Guys, meet Angel Winters."
