Six months had passed after our college graduation. We spent that entire time engaged to each other, however we never told anyone we wanted to find the right time. After using the money we saved up to get an apartment we were finally ready to give the news starting with Sarah's parents. That day we walked into their homes. I recall my heart kept racing and racing as I suddenly became consumed with fear, nervousness, and anxiety. The only thing that would bring calmness and serenity to my mind was holding onto Sarah's hand as she led me into the house.
We both stood in the living room while her parents stood before us "So what's this big news you had to tell us in person"her mother asked we turned to look at eachother in the eye realizing in that very moment that no matter what everyone would soon know how strong our love really is. The very thought of that fact replaced my fear, nervousness, and anxiety with happiness, love, and excitement. We looked toward her parents as Sarah said "Mom Dad we're engaged"she said as she held up her hand showing them her engagement ring.
Her parents looked at us with a sense oof shock on their faces which then evolved into happiness as her mother walked over to her to get a better look at the ring. Sarah and her mother walked into another room to talk while her father wanted me to accompany him outside as I stood outside with him my fear returned with a vengeance. As he stood in front of me while looking out into the fields of the area "You know when Sarah was born I promised to protect all I've ever wanted to do was to make sure she was happy, healthy, and safe''he said as he walked towards me.
He placed his hand upon my shoulder "I know you care about my daughter just as much as I do out of all of the people in the world. I'm glad that Sarah found you to spend the rest of her life with"he said. After he said that my fear suddenly vanished as it was replaced with my happiness "Thank you sir"I said "What are you doing calling me sir we're family now call me dad"he said as we hugged while my eyes filled with tears of joy. We spent the entirety of the rest of the day as well as that night telling all of our friends that we were engaged, we later layed in bed together.
"I can't believe you actually went to talk to my dad"she said as she slowly and softly rubbed up and down my arm "Yeah to be honest I was a bit scared"I said. She began to laugh "I love you James Monroe ''she said "I love you Sarah Williams''I said as we kissed each other deeply. For months we went on to plan for our wedding. Truth be told I always feared doing this as I was afraid that it would tear us apart, however nothing made me happier than being wrong as planning our wedding did the opposite for our relationship. Instead of tearing us apart it brought us even closer together, and after nearly three months the day for our wedding had arrived at last upon us.
We all stood upon a beach in San Diego,California dressed in our finest of clothes. I stood there waiting for my bride to come forth. I would be incredibly nervous if I wasn't so overwhelmed with happiness. I watched her walk down the aisle as she was escorted by her father. Never in my life had I seen her so beautiful as she wore a shining white wedding dress.
The only sad thing about this whole thing is that my parents couldn't be here, but I knew that they were with me in spirit. She approached me to look into my eyes once she was close enough I lifted her veil seeing her beautiful blue eyes. It was this very occasion that would eventually lead me to create the story that I'm telling right now...................Before the Veil. The priest stood between us as we held hands "Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to witness the binding of these two young hearts James Monroe and Sarah Williams.
Matrimony are sacred vows only to be entered by those who possess great love for eachother Sarah do you take James to be your lofly wedded husband to love and to hold in sickness and in health till do you part"he asked "I do"she said "And do you James take Sarah to be you're lofly wedded wife to love and to hold in sickness in health till death do you part"he asked "I do"I said.
"Well in that case I now present you man and wife you may kiss the bride"he said as we both kissed in that moment we silitified with just a simple kiss. Three years passed after the day of our wedding. We had moved to New York City in order to have more productive and good lives in the big city. I had become a journalist working for the New York Times as a reporter while Sarah became a nurse working at the NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital.
We both lived good meaningful lives. It was during this time in my life I thought that I was ready for anything that came my way until one fatal day that would shake me to my very core. One day I returned home seeing Sarah sitting on the couch waiting to give me news that would change my life forever.
"Hey babe are you ok"I asked "Ummmmmmm..............................yeah but there's something I need to tell you"she said as she walked towards me with tears of joy filled within her eyes. "Honey..........I..................................I'm pregnant"she said as she began to smile while tears of joy rolled down her cheeks her news literally made me freeze in place as I took time to process the information. In that moment tears of joy uncontrollably rolled down my face "Oh my god.....................this is........................................amazing news"I said as the biggest smile ever shined across my face as we kissed. Within a nine-month period I tended to the every need of my pregnant wife even if I wa forced take on double shifts at my job.
I honestly considered myself lucky that we were blessed with such good friends and family that supported us. When the time came for her to give birth to our child I was more than she was as I quickly rushed her into the hospital. As I held her hand while she layed in her bed preparing to give birth she said to me "It's ok I'll be fine everything will be fine". In the process of giving birth she squeezed my hand so tightly then in a matter of seconds she had given birth to a healthy baby girl.
Nothing made me happier than us holding our daughter. We then decided on what to name her by using the typical tie breaker rock-paper-scissors in which she won, but secretly I let her win. and we both agreed to name her Samantha and we both agreed to name her Samantha.
With one chapter of my life at a close I soon began to turn the page on the next. Raising a child is a challenge of its constant shift of my emotions as me and Sarah constantly shifted from happiness, anger, and many many others. However, in the end it was worth it as after eighteen years our daughter graduated from high school and I could've been more proud seeing her grow into a kind, confident, well rounded woman.
