no more wailing on my mother's shoulder lamenting about the past

no longer embracing a devil-may-care facade

This is real, but reality has not come easy for me

for I've never felt comfortable growing up

Mostly because I did not think I would ever truly begin to live

Or have to maintain responsibilities

Or worry about financial stability

Let this be my last dictation as a teenager

I will grow old

I will be happy

I will value and be valued

I can’t bear to stay the same as I have done for years

This night I must change

I must grow

Too long I’ve clipped the leash on things I'm willing to let in

I must be hurt

I must be loved

I have to live

And leave.

Here I will stay,

With time eroding and contorting my skin

till I'm ill with the over-encompassing amount of knowledge I've absorbed

Aged and forgotten, but I will know

I always will know

That I have done something with my life

Have been someone beloved

So dearly.

Have written something so profound it’ll be a piece of me somewhere

Abiding long after I have left.
