Alfred Sallow has always been a kind boy, loving the orderly sense of direction and law, until he meets eccentric, egotistical and yet mentally chaotic Evelyn Coglaw. She is a detective who has often bent the ideas of law around her own agenda. She lives in Gibson street near the Greenwich museum in a two up two down where she rents a kitchen a living room a bedroom and a guest bedroom which she has turned to a “study” without consent of the landlord (she left the single bed in to please the landlord). Once Evelyn takes a liking to Alfie, she offers him a place as her secretary, eventually after agreeing, he takes up the role in sorting through her life, becoming the humanity she needs.
