I woke drenched, my heart racing. I had seen the Cafe explode over and over but the thing that bothered me most was the strange man staring into the window. The slow rise of the weapon and the pop pop pop sound as he opened fire on the unsuspecting patrons inside. John's arm had been graised and I hadn't registered that fact until now. My body began to shake uncontrollably silent tears falling down my face and I didn't hear my door open until Joe was rubbing his hands up and down my arms, as if to warm me. My brain briefly registered Richard still there. I had to get a grip. I have to push this away and focus on taking one step at a time.
My body stops shaking and I take a few steadying breaths.Joe my friend and agent of the past 4 years was crooning into my ear like a concerned parent. "That's right baby girl. Breathe in... and out. Slow now, that's a girl." Joe had come with me on this trip his wife was supposed to meet him in Oregon during my 2 weeks off so that they could have a romantic getaway. I had to get myself together if I let this hinder me they would push it off and they deserved to have a break. They have been cheering for me since day one. I take one last steadying breath and push Joe back, "I'm fine now thanks. I will shower and be right as rain. I will meet you out there shortly." I didn't give any room for him to argue.
Richard's point of view-
I had noticed how amazing she looked when I first saw her sitting in the Cafe. She was a bit on the thin side but still she shown brighter than all the others he noticed. He couldn't pull his eyes off of her. When he mentioned his brother and she responded his heart beat a little too fast and for the first time in a long time he disliked strongly how much he was envious of the warm look in her eyes when she spoke of his brother and their plans. He had been a fool all those years ago to let someone else come between them. The one thing he knew was she was a bright light and he felt less without her. The woman he had gone to was beautiful and they had hot sex but Isaboe was dazling in all aspects. He couldn't remember why he let her go. After he saw his brother pull her to him and turned to look at what John had seen he instinctively ducked mere moments before all he'll broke loose. He saw a man shielding her and saw his nod toward the side entrance and he followed.
He was ushered up to her room and while she was in the shower he sent his brother a text. "Bro, you alright?" A few seconds later he was having a full conversation. "Yeah. You?" " Yeah we are fine. Where are you?" "I crawled out the back with some guy who said his name was Matt and he claimed he was Isaboe's bodyguard and he would keep me safe for her sake." "Where are you?" Seth had entered the suite then to check on the room one more time and he asked Seth about his partner. Seth mentioned Matt by name and he felt better. "Have Matt bring you where his charge is. He should know. If he doesn't you know what that means." "Got it. See ya soon" with that he turned on the TV in the bedroom they were already reporting on the massacre. He watched her from the corner of his eye not wanting to scare her sensing she might be at a breaking point. She curled up on the bed and drifted to sleep. After a few moments he turned off the TV. He was about to leave when he noticed her leg, nice creamy smooth and well toned slip from the robe and he felt a tightening in his chest and pants. He whispered under his breath, "What the heck, get ahold of yourself, she's vulnerable right now." He knew if he took advantage she would never forgive him and he would not be able to forgive himself either nor would he forget. He sat back in the chair after moving it closer to the bed. He didn't move to cover her he wasn't sure if it would disturb her.
Twenty minutes later she had been tossing and fitfully moaning for a few moments now. He knew from experience she was dreaming about the incident. She began to scream and sat bolt upright. She was shaking and her vision was not focused. He knew she was reliving that moment. She screamed his brothers name and it made him flinch. He slid behind her whispering into her ear, he helped her to drink knowing that she needed it. When he felt her stiffen he knew she had regained some semblance of herself. He moved away and she lay back on the bed. He covered her and she slipped into slumber again. He left the room silently.
Entering the living area of the suite he saw his brother and another man. "Is this Matt?" He asked. When his brother nodded he looked at him and said "thanks." Matt nodded and left the room to stand guard when another man entered the suite. He looked confused but said nothing. The man introduced himself as something to do with books but I didn't pay attention. Joe something was his name and he asked about us. John answered him and I Moved to look out the window while they talked. Going over what had happened in my mind it seemed like that strange gunman looked right at isaboe before he turned slightly and opened fire. Did that psycho want to hurt her or in some twisted way was he showing some form of admiration? Screams came from the bedroom and we all sprang to the door. This Joe guy was through the door and had her in his arms soothing ber before I could get there and I was left feeling so many things my fists clenched by my side and I didn't move. I watched in aew as she schooled herself and with a steady voice she said "I'm fine now thanks,..." I didn't hear the rest I had been holding my breath and after hearing that let it out. I made my way to the sofa in the sitting area and looked at John who was giving me a once over.
"You still love her." The statement was out of his mouth and I tried to protest but the words wouldn't come to my lips. I just crossed my arms and remain silent. Did I still love her? Or was this some sort of misplaced concern? An overreaction? "I'm concerned about a friend" was all I could muster but now I was thinking about my reaction to her and the image of her thigh peaking from her robe had me all messed up.
