“I… see… you… I… see… you… ” Sadie woke up with a start, her heart pounding. She could still hear the voice echoing in her ears. She had been having dreams like this for weeks, always the same thing. Sadie could never predict when another dream would come. Sometimes she had them for days in a row, but sometimes she would have one and then not have another for another week. No one knew about these dreams except for her best friends Jenny and Eliza.
Sadie looked at the clock, not being able to fall asleep, afraid that the dream would come again. It was 3 am. Weirdly, these dreams always occurred at 3 in the morning, Never 2:59. Never 3:01. Always 3. She reached for her flashlight and a book, eager to get her mind off of these things. She kept reading until she heard the birds starting to sing outside the window. She checked the time and realized she had been reading for an hour and a half. She went back to bed, knowing she couldn’t stay awake any longer.
The next thing Sadie realized was her alarm clock ringing in her ear, forcing her to get up. She got out of bed, remembering what had happened hours earlier, but what felt like seconds ago. Sadie grabbed her phone and texted Jenny and Eliza.
I had a dream again
What should I do???
J: meet us at school by the lockers at 7:45 and tell us then
Sadie sighed, glad that she had friends that she could trust and that understood her, but she was still worried, worried that someone else would find out, and worried that whoever that man was, he would find her. She took a deep breath to steady herself and started to get ready for school.
An hour and a half later, Sadie stood by her lockers, checking the time every 5 seconds. She felt a pit in her stomach, but it was still early, she kept telling herself, they will come, they won’t be late. Finally, she saw Jenny and Eliza walking towards her, an anxious look on their faces.
“So? What happened?” asked Eliza. Sadie sighed and shook her head. “I was sleeping normally when suddenly it was like someone was whispering in my ear”. She shuddered, not wanting to remember the horrid dream. “Well, try not to think about it," Jenny whispered, and exchanged a worried glance with Eliza.
Later that day, Sadie was taking notes, when she saw something move outside the window. At first, she thought that it was just someone from another grade outside from recess, but then Sadie remembered that it was 1:15 and that no one was allowed to go outside after 12:30 unless it was an emergency. She looked up, but didn't see anything. Sadie looked back down, thinking that it was just her imagination. A couple minutes later, she saw something again out of the corner of her eye and looked back at the window, but all she saw was a bird flying past. Sadie shrugged and looked back down at her paper. Then she heard it. The voice. It was back. "You might not see me... But I'm here... You just don't know where to look..." Sadie started to shake. She gripped the desk to steady herself. "Look up." whispered the voice hoarsely. Sadie didn't move. "Look at the window." As if she was a puppet and a puppeteer was moving her, Sadie slowly raised her head. No! What are you doing! Don't! Move! Sadie kept yelling at herself in her head, but it was like she had no control over her body. Her head slowly turned toward the window. She started to panic and tried to close her eyes, but it was too late. She looked at the window. A man stood outside, a knife in his hand and a creepy smile over his face. It was him. Sadie screamed and passed out.
Sadie woke up on the floor, the whole class crowded around her. She sat up quickly. "It's him", she said, "He's here". Jenny and Eliza's faces turned whiter than paper. Then she passed out again.
The rest was all a blur. Sadie remembered was the teacher carrying her out of the class, the worried look on the nurses face as the teacher explained what had happened. Her mother picking her up, going back home. When she woke up, she was in bed. She looked back at the clock. It was 4:45. She laid back again, trying to remember everything. Suddenly, she picked up her phone. She had over 100 text messages. All from Jenny and Eliza. She smiled, happy to know that her friends cared. Sadie spent the next 15 minutes answering their text messages. She put her phone down and got up, and went to her mom. "Mom, I don't feel good," she complained. "I know honey. The nurse said you were probably dehydrated because of the heat and started to see things." her mom glanced at Sadie with a sympathetic look. "Now, go back to bed and get some sleep. You're not going to school tomorrow. You should feel better." Sadie trudged back to bed. But that's what I WANT to do! She thought. Reluctantly, she went back to bed.
Sadie woke up with a start. This time, there were no dreams, so she thought that she was just not feeling well. She opened her eyes, but something did not feel right. Slowly she turned her head toward the window.
She looked at the window. He was standing there, with that same knife and creepy smile on his face. Sadie screamed. He broke the window and jumped inside. The last thing Sadie remembered was him standing over her with a bloody knife, laughing evilly. Then she died.
