How did this happen? Dumbledore promised to protect her. He promised. Why, why did this have to happen to her? This is all my fault. I should have never told Voldemort about that cursed prophecy. Had I had known it was her son I wouldn't have. It's all my fault. I put her in danger. I am forever in her debt. 647Please respect copyright.PENANAwjOjIRVIHf
"Oh, Lily, I am so sorry. I am so so very sorry," Snape whispers as he cradles the love's lifeless body.647Please respect copyright.PENANACVnF1YJRP6
He cries as he rocks back and forth, still holding her in his arms. Her red hair seems brighter against his dark black robes. His tears stream down his face but no sound comes out. He silently mourns the only woman he has ever loved. He hears giant footsteps coming from downstairs as the house shakes slightly.647Please respect copyright.PENANAAleVbTwgjz
"Don´t mind me, Professor. I'm just 'ere to get baby 'arry. Dumbledore's orders," Hagrid mumbles as he awkwardly steps around the grieving man on the ground.
The gigantic man towers over the crib of the child. The baby begins to cry almost instantly. Whether it was Hagrid's huge beard or his giant stature he wasn't sure, but it was scaring the baby. He carefully scoops up the crying baby in his large hands. The baby's crying slows before he becomes silent. He lets out a small giggle. Hagrid nods to Snape before exiting with the baby. Outside Hagrid had just finished figuring out the safest way to sit on his motorcycle while holding the baby in his arm. He pulls away from Godric's Hollow before flying into the air.
Hagrid lands on Privet drive where his boss, Albus Dumbledore, is standing with Professor Mcgonagall. He hands the baby over to Dumbledore who begins walking towards the house of Harry's muggle Aunt and Uncle, Petunia and Vernon.
"Do you really think it's safe, leaving him with these people? I've watched them all day and they are the worst sort of muggles imaginable. They really are-" Mcgonagall protests before she is cut off.
"The only family he has," Dumbledore finishes for her.
"Are you sure there is no one else who can take him Albus?" She pleads.
"Who else but his own flesh and blood will be willing to protect the boy during times like this? These muggles aren't aware of the wizarding world and can keep him properly hidden until the time for him to be reintroduced into the wizarding world comes," he explains.
"They'll treat him terribly, Albus. I know you want him to be safe, but shouldn't he also be happy? These are the type of people who would bar his window or make him live under a cupboard!" Mcgonagall begs.
"Should there be someone fit to take care of the boy then of course I would give him to them, but who, Minerva?" The grey wizard questions.
"I think I have a solution to the boy's guardian situation," Comes a slow, deep voice from behind Hagrid.
"Ah, Professor Snape. So glad you can join us. To what do I owe the pleasure?" Dumbledore asks.
"May I speak to you in private please, Headmaster?" Snape requests.
Dumbledore hands baby Harry to Mcgonagall before walking around the corner of the house with snape.
"I owe this to Lily. I failed to protect her so I need to protect her son. You know how I loved her Albus. I promise to guard the boy with my life. She died to save the boy, the least I can do is to make sure it wasn't in vain. I owe her this debt," Snape explains.
Dumbledore is silent for a moment.
"Very well, Severus. I grant you guardianship of Harry. You know I put my complete faith in you. I trust that you will not disappoint," He concludes.
They return to where Mcgonagall and Hagrid are standing. Dumbledore informs them that Harry will go to Spinner's End with Snape. Mcgonagall gives Severus a skeptical glance but says nothing. She reluctantly hands him the baby. He nods towards Dumbledore before apparating with baby Harry in tow.
