Chapter 7: Resentment
Minutes ticked by as half an hour to an hour passed before a guard would approach with a comrade as they had been sent to look for Talon. One with brown hair spotted a form moving and slowly neared. “Sir Talon?” he questioned while approaching closer with his orange haired comrade. “Sir Talon can you hear me?” he asked with a bit more urgency as they started to hear the boy groaning.734Please respect copyright.PENANA0dx18TPZeL

“Sir Talon are you alright?” the orange haired guard questioned as he knelt beside the boy who was now starting to push up with shaking arms onto his hands and knees.734Please respect copyright.PENANA22eYDvKRAR

Talon’s first answer was a silent nod before he inhaled the clean air deeply to answer. “Yes, I’m fine just…winded.” Slowly he began to open his eyes. “Where did she go?”734Please respect copyright.PENANAfrffSAftjr

The guards looked to each other, then to Talon as the one with brown hair spoke. “She who, sir?” he inquired as they didn’t notice any indication of there being a second person in the area but the guard motioned for his orange haired friend to look around. The orange haired guard nodded and left to survey the area.734Please respect copyright.PENANAZc7WVuLyHs

“The woman who was here and left,” he stated with a bit of heated force which startled the guard. Looking up to see this stunned expression he sighed and shifted as he got to his feet with the guard’s help in keeping him balanced. “Never mind, tell me why you both are here then and what time it is.”734Please respect copyright.PENANAuGjIrC0519

“Alright,” he nodded softly, “the time is three-o’clock in the afternoon. We are here to fetch you for Lord Hiatsu.”734Please respect copyright.PENANAtxlk1leqHb

“Lord Hiatsu has summoned me?”734Please respect copyright.PENANAZWh7KaOIa9

The guard nodded. “Yes, he has called upon you to discuss a matter of paperwork.”734Please respect copyright.PENANAWrftXIGyeY

Talon slowly lowered his eyes hearing this. That’s weird. Normally he doesn’t discuss business or his Godly affairs with me. I wonder what’s made this different…734Please respect copyright.PENANAvGECAkE47b

“Um…are you alright?” the brown haired guard inquired after Talon had been silent for a minute or so.734Please respect copyright.PENANAHpJ0tQv7be

“Huh?” he looked up and nodded. “Of course I am,” he stepped past the guard. “Grab your partner and return to the palace to retake your positions.” The guard nodded and took his leave to get his friend as Talon made his way back to the palace. Later they would return with the orange haired guard dropping off his horse while the brown haired guard returned to his post. Inside the palace one of the aids lead Talon to Hiatsu’s quarters where she knocked and opened the door for him once the command to ‘enter’ was heard. Talon entered and the woman bowed her head before leaving and closing the door behind the boy. “You summoned?”734Please respect copyright.PENANASjU7YDNvs9

Hiatsu looked up with a nod and hand motioning to a chair in front of his desk. “Yes, I did.” He watched as Talon took a seat while he continued. “I want to know your input on what I should do with a couple traitors we found and have locked up in the dungeons.” He explained in a calm yet serious tone as he looked back to the papers.734Please respect copyright.PENANAqVMlDjsx1O

“Why do you want to know my opinion?” he crossed one leg over the other. “I’m no God but a simple human or did you forget?” he leaned back while uncrossing his legs and started to play with a small ball of wind.734Please respect copyright.PENANAMY1iBuk08k

“Because,” the Fire God heaved, “if you are to be anything in this world, you will learn something other than how to cock an attitude like Marizu with me.” His tone had turned sterner as he glanced up with his eyes to see the boy’s slouched position. “No, I did not forget that you are but a halfling. I need your opinion because it is necessary for me to see your thought process on this matter.” This drew the black haired boy to look up. “I wish to know how you will answer for deciding the fates of those who commit serious crimes.”734Please respect copyright.PENANAkpuv648aWy

“Alright but I won’t make any promises that my answers will be what you’re looking for.”734Please respect copyright.PENANA4eN5YYzHWp

The Fire God nodded his red head. “Very well, that’s fine. Now then,” he took a breath as he went into explaining. “The first criminal is being charged for two counts of trespassing, one count of spying, three counts of theft, and one count of homicide that resulted in the mutilation of a corpse.” He glanced up to see Talon’s body had tensed hearing this and the wind ball having vanished. “The second criminal is being charged for one count of spying, two counts of homicide and one count of assault.” He looked fully up from the papers as he laced his fingers together in front of him. “I want your opinion to hear how you would enact judgment on these two criminals given the charges brought against them.” He kept his tone level yet firm as he spoke and allowed the room to fall quiet to let the boy think.734Please respect copyright.PENANARVlAhq9kx3

“…” he lowered his head as he thought while sitting upright in the chair. Time trickled by with the silence thickening before it was finally broken. “Torture,” the boy said as he looked up, “torture them at random times so they don’t know when it’s coming. Also keep them in solitary confinement.”734Please respect copyright.PENANAz4j5hVgUqF

Hiatsu raised an eyebrow at this but kept his tone careful. “And for how long would this continue for?”734Please respect copyright.PENANAxq84Re9zt3
734Please respect copyright.PENANApwguyEdtxY
“Eight to fifteen years.” Talon responded confidently. He frowned when he saw Hiatsu seemed to be pondering something. “This should be their punishment so they are likely to die in prison for their horrible crimes.”734Please respect copyright.PENANAeQ134oI1Ce

“Yes, you would be true that could be considered as fair by most for such things. But,” he took a breath and released it as he rested his head so his laced fingers now came to rest under his nose. “You see, things are not always so cut and dry. These are mortals we are dealing with and, although that should not be considered a factor in deciding their fate, it is a factor an Immortal should take into consideration since it is one whose life will continue for all time as compared to a creature whose life is limited and has an expiration date.” 734Please respect copyright.PENANAmZiBorATIh

He noticed the boy curling in his fingers into tightly balled fists. “When you are deciding another’s fate you take into consideration their crimes, life span, and if you think they can be reformed over a number of months or years.” Catching a small growl the Fire God decided to continue on. “I would sentence them to three to four years each in prison with daily simplified meals and be forced to preform manual labor while going through meetings to see if they can turn their limited life around.” 734Please respect copyright.PENANAG5JCv2eAiT

“No!” the boy shouted loudly at the same time as he stood while slamming his hands hard onto the desk. “You need to be harsher! Those who kill others and preform these actions should not be given leniency!” he snapped sharply. 734Please respect copyright.PENANAValfpV9CW6

Hiatsu narrowed his sights on the boy as he lowered his hands and sat up straight. “No, I am not granting them leniency. I am granting them a chance to not go insane from going through eight to fifteen years of chaotic torture while being kept away from everyone and everything.” His shoulders tensed as Talon started to bare his teeth at him. “You were on the right track but went too far. If they were Immortal then I would have told you that you were closer to being right, but they aren’t so there are different rules and factors.” 734Please respect copyright.PENANAcQEAlca0f2

“How the hell are you going so easy on them when Lord Marizu told me you are injuring and torturing Lord Ginsu for not killing anyone?!”734Please respect copyright.PENANA8LhA2UpMI3
734Please respect copyright.PENANAmPuMvwo9dc
“I just explained to you that a creatures life limitations factor in.” he responded strongly. “Plus, Ginsu is serving his punishment for defying direct orders twice that I gave him.” He nearly bellowed while slowly standing.734Please respect copyright.PENANA2WePXEHBSQ

“That doesn’t matter you stupid, soft headed bastard!” the boy screamed while a powerful gust of wind shot through the room with him standing straight. Papers and other items were thrown about the room before it died away with Talon panting and shaking with his blue eyes locked on the unfazed Fire God. A few items were left broken as one of those items was the previously sat in chair.734Please respect copyright.PENANASNrMguREWE

Hiatsu eventually broke the tense silence with a quiet annoyed voice. “If you are thinking you can control that temper of yours then we will discuss another criminal or if you are unable to, take your leave now and cool off.” Talon growled at him and stormed off, slamming the door hard behind him and didn’t end his cursing the elder god brother. Maids and servants moved quickly out of the youth’s way as they did not want any trouble with him.734Please respect copyright.PENANAGdw4CZc6Hp

Inside the room Hiatsu groaned with an exhale as he stepped away from his desk. One hand came to cover his face with his eyes closing as the other hand swept out from his body, unleashing flames to tend to the damages and disorganization. “Damn it.” He softly cursed under his breath in a quiet voice as he stepped towards one of his windows to gaze out and see Marizu training the new batch of recruits in the west training grounds.734Please respect copyright.PENANAPFMLp5qnHw

Talon stormed outside towards the guard’s east training grounds before yelling in rage as he started slamming his fists hard as he could into the trunk of a mighty old and tall tree. After several punches to the rough bark, his knuckles began to bleed but he continued without much pause until finally, after some minutes, he stopped. He stood still and stared at the ground with his breathing heavy and mind racing. Slowly he gritted his teeth as his shoulders tensed so they rose slightly. “Why?” he snarled to the ground. “Why, why, why?!” he shouted with his head tilting backwards to glare daggers at the dancing leaves. This drew the eyes of a few guards that were passing by but they continued on their way, not wishing to see what would happen if they neared or tried speaking to the half demon.734Please respect copyright.PENANAaBgtBvAuar

Growling he glared back at the ground as the wind softly blew and quiet words danced through his ears, but didn’t register as much to his anger focused mind. “I’ll kill him.” He muttered, “I’ll make sure I kill him and show him just how pitiful he is! I’ll get my sister back and make her see what happens when you look down on someone just because they are younger than her!” he shouted as his body leaned in towards the tree with his eyes closing tightly. “I’ll make them wish they were never born!” that vow came shouted at the top of his lungs which caused his voice to crack. Suddenly his bleeding gripped fists uncurled and one hand shot up to grab his arm that had sparks of purple and white coming from it.734Please respect copyright.PENANAMdVdAb9OY5

His body collapsed after stumbling which resulted in his body slipping down an incline before he was stopped roughly but a moderate sized rock. He gasped coughing and hissed in pain from his arm and his back with his side. Slowly he lifted his head to look towards the palace and saw a figure standing there above him that looked concerned yet also as if she were smirking. “Sis..ter?” he questioned softly before releasing a breath and passed out to fall into an escape from the mark and the throbbing pain in his back. That smirking figure vanished in a strong burst of wind and green leaves, leaving him alone until he would be found later and brought back to the palace for medical treatment.734Please respect copyright.PENANAhKMDdJGEsU
