At the slamming of the door Luce had exited their room, uttering their first full sentence. “What were you lot bickering about..?” Charles, surprised at Luce’s sudden willingness to care, nervously replied “J-just some rent stuff.” Luce chuckled to themself, prancing onto the couch and continuing unwaveringly, “finally gone..!” Charles sat for a moment, then stammered “how many.. eviction? Notice?” “30 days I think..? Voluntary leave or somethin’ like that..” Luce replied, shrugging their shoulders and turning on the television. After sitting by the television for a while something felt uneasy. As if suddenly remembering something, Luce jolted over to the cabinets which were ajar and sure enough, empty. “What…ehh..what happened?” Charles asked before receiving a sharp nod. It was understood between the two that some shopping had to be done.

That evening a neighbor had stopped by, Mr. plum. He greeted them as usual, placing down left overs of everything his wife makes and complaining about his boring life. Not that they personally enjoyed Mr. Plum, but Luce enjoyed company and arguing with Luce was absurd. “Ugh! Only Elaine knows why I can’t find my sharp knives!” Barked Mr. Plum. “What would that be for sir?” asked Charles, while Luce gave a firm nod of agreement. “I have to chop meat for “authentic meatballs” for my wife’s spaghetti!” “Well you don’t have to!” Charles said enthusiastically “we can!” “You boys are the best! Tell my wife you’ll be helping her today and not me!” and with that Mr. Plum had left. As soon as his foot steps trailed far enough down the hall that they could no longer be heard, Luce began to riot. “How dare you make me chop meat for meatballs!! YOU HATE SPAGHETTI?!?!” Charles tried to interrupt but Luce was already angered. “I have no words to express how mad I am.” “So will you help me?” Charles finally asked after they had calmed down. “I guess.” Luce replied, very obviously upset, but not wanting to return home alone.
