I woke up to the warmth of the sun on my face. I got out of bed and went downstairs for breakfast. I opened the refrigerator and decided to make crepes for breakfast, so I gathered the ingredients. While preparing, I heard a commotion. It was Luna, the Daughter of the Moon, who had woken up to the noise. "Good morning, Luna," I said as she rushed over. She asked, "Did you hear, V?" Confused, I responded, "What exactly do I need to hear?" She replied, "Alpha has come to our school." What!? Alpha had come to our school. This was both exciting and surprising news. Alpha, Alvin, Luna, and I had been a group of friends since childhood. We had grown up and drifted apart, but with this news, maybe we were getting back together soon. "This is fantastic news, Luna. Let's have breakfast together then." Luna smiled and called Alvin.
Alvin and Luna were a couple, and although they had been in love since childhood, my dear friend Alvin had been in denial about it for the longest time. Finally, he had fallen in love, and their playful, childlike relationship had turned into something beautiful. I had always wanted to be like them, but Alpha was very protective in this regard. Yes, we weren't a couple, and there was nothing romantic between us, but there was a brotherly jealousy from Alpha. After all, Alpha was older than all of us.
We decided to follow Alvin's suggestion and have a nice breakfast in the campus garden. Luna asked me how I was feeling, and I told her I felt fine; this had become our daily routine. We connected the phone to the car and entered the campus with music playing. Luna's greatest joy was to turn up the music loudly when entering campus to gather attention.
After parking in a beautiful spot, we joined Alvin and Alpha. Alpha looked at us with eyes filled with longing. It was clear that the years had treated him well. He had grown taller, his light brown hair shone, his eyes were bright, and that magnificent smile was just as I remembered. "Here's my favorite magician," he said, opening his arms. I ran towards him and hugged him tightly. He called me a magician because even though I tried, I could never perform magic tricks. But he always took pride in my attempts, which I appreciated greatly. After a tearful reunion and hours of laughter and catching up, a moment of silence came.
I asked Alpha, "What brought you here?" However, everyone's expression suddenly turned cold, as if I had asked something I shouldn't have. Alpha replied with a smile, "I enrolled in this school. I missed you all, and adapting to a new environment was a bit challenging." I was genuinely happy for him. If he didn't feel safe and happy with us, he wouldn't have brought his life here, so his well-being meant a lot to me.
As class time approached, Luna asked me if I would join her. I declined, saying, "No, Luna, I haven't been in a psychology class for a long time. I need to attend it now." Alpha quickly intervened, saying, "Oh, what a coincidence. I also have a psychology class. We can go together, and you can show me around the campus." I agreed, "Sure, let's go," and we said goodbye to Luna and Alvin, heading to the lecture halls.
The first class was so dull that I couldn't wait for lunchtime. Luckily, it ended early, and we met with our friends in the cafeteria. Alvin, being his usual romantic self, had bought a rose for Luna and placed it on her plate. Seeing this, Alpha turned to me and said with a grin, "I have a target for this year; I have different plans. Do you think I've found the one?" I already sensed that his calmness concealed some mischievous plans, so without hesitation, I responded, "Oh, did you not find them yet?" with a smirk. After some joking around, we returned to class.
During the class, suddenly a commotion broke out. I looked up and saw Professor Dunken scolding Elliot. He called Elliot to the front, explaining a problem in great detail and instructing him to solve it while shouting at him. Elliot nervously approached the board, and the classroom fell silent. Alpha turned to me and said, "How about having some fun?" and with a sly smile, I replied, "Why not, go ahead, show yourself." I was curious, and I suspected that Alpha would do something to save Elliot from the embarrassing situation.
Alpha fixed his gaze on Professor Dunken, his eyes intense and unsettling. After a while, he whispered, "Open the ink and spill it," in a low voice. Just then, I heard a gasp from the entire class. Elliot had opened his pen and spilled ink all over Professor Dunken. I was in shock, looking at Alpha, trying to comprehend what had just happened. There was no way Elliot could have heard Alpha's whispered instructions from that distance and in such a low voice. Alpha resumed whispering, "The professor is too full of himself. I wonder if you can solve this problem." While saying this, he made the same statement loudly, and I was taken aback when I heard Elliot say the exact words. My heart raced, and I couldn't believe it. Elliot, from his position, repeated Alpha's words loudly, "This is why you're a psychopath. I'm quitting this class!" After saying this, he poured his coffee onto the professor's head and left the classroom. The shock turned into laughter, and everyone burst into laughter.
Witnessing Alpha making Elliot repeat his actions verbally from a distance had both terrified and astounded me. I was frozen in place, staring at Alpha, trying to figure out what had just happened. There was absolutely no way that Elliot could have heard Alpha's instructions from that distance and in such a hushed tone. Alpha began whispering again, "You think highly of yourself, Professor. I wonder if you can solve this problem." He repeated the same phrase loudly, and I heard Elliot say the exact words, causing my blood pressure to rise. It was unimaginable. Elliot, from his position, had repeated Alpha's words loudly. He then pushed his chair back, declared, "This is why you're a psychopath; I'm dropping this class!" and poured the remaining coffee on the professor before storming out of the classroom. The shock turned into laughter, and the whole class erupted in amusement.
Alpha's ability to make Elliot repeat his actions verbally from afar had both terrified and astounded me. I was frozen in place, staring at Alpha, and finally, I managed to blurt out, "What are you, Alpha?" My voice trembled. Before I could say anything else, everything around me blurred and turned dark.
In the state between wakefulness and unconsciousness, I could vaguely hear Luna and Alvin's voices saying, "V, come on, wake up, are you okay?" I heard them saying it. I opened my eyes slightly and panicked as I sat up. "Y-you!" I yelled. At that moment, Alvin asked, "Me?" I shook my head and pointed to Alpha. "You?" I asked. "What's going on, Violet?" Alpha responded. "What do you mean, what's going on? Who are you, and what did you do to Alpha? What was all that puppet show?" I demanded. Luna tried to calm me down, saying, "Calm down, V. What's happening? Are you okay? You fainted." But I was puzzled. How could they have seen me faint when they weren't in the same class? I asked, "Wait, were you guys in the same classroom too?" Alvin clarified, "No, V. We were in the cafeteria. Your blood pressure suddenly dropped."
I looked around and realized we were still in the cafeteria. It couldn't have been a dream; I could feel it with all five of my senses. I turned my shocked gaze toward Alpha and he said, "You seem like you've had a terrifying nightmare." I couldn't hold back my frustration and shouted, "You're quite the actor!" Luna was trying to keep me calm, holding me back, while Alpha said, "That's why you should have said, 'Who are you?' instead of 'What are you?'." Unable to contain my curiosity and fear any longer, I finally asked, "Who are you?"
