There are many things I don’t like

Snakes

Frogs

Mannequins

People knowing I’m upset, angry, or sad

Especially

Especially them knowing

‘I’m fine’

Even though I’m not

I’m definitely not fuming like a fire

Nope

Pencil in one hand and a journal in the other

Two things keeping me in check

Bury it deep like treasure

Except it’s the opposite of treasure

I don’t think you want to find this not-treasure

So just leave it be, let it dissolve in the pit of me

People usually say ‘don’t bury your emotions’

But that’s exactly what I do

Ha, to them

They don’t build up and burst

At least not in a negative way

They just get to me sometimes

Giving me intense mood swings

Laughing hysterically and then crying

And then laughing like the crying is because I’m laughing

Ha, ha, ha

I wonder what they would say if they knew

But the only person who’s going to know is

You, me, and God

And whoever else in the future

Maybe nobody else

This is a poem about identity

Identity is who you are

And I’m someone who fakes a smile and buries their emotion

Not wanting to hurt anyone like I’ve been hurt in the past

Nobody means to hurt me

Or make me angry

And upset

Usually it’s over something I don’t think they’d understand

They won’t understand why I’m upset

But that’s okay

I don’t need them to

I don’t need anyone to

I prefer to be happy than having someone worry about me

Because you have to

Fake it until you make it
