Peace - is it unachievable?

To begin, what is peace?

Is peace blue skies and a light breeze?

Is peace simply a time when hard times cease?

Perhaps (I speak this theory gingerly),

It, itself, is defined as 'freedom from disturbance'.

Does this mean that loneliness is peace,

The gut-wrenching, inevitable moment when you realise

'No one cares about me...'

Peace - surely it must be unachievable

For freedom from disturbance

Can be disturbing on it's own.

Peaceful regret consumes me.

A state of bliss, where worries battle in my mind.

I let down my defences, throw caution to the wind,

and let all the bad things in.

Defined, this time, as 'a period in which there is no war or a war has ended'...

In other words,

Is peace the joyous relief - the nightmare is over?

Is peace the come-down from said joy,

When you realise the dead are still dead, that the damage will stay?

Is peace a white flag? A white flag that flies

Bloodstained, torn, creased and ripped,

but flies proud nonetheless?
