Selling grief by the pound

Manufactured tears

Treat guns like they’re toys

Boys will be boys

All those wasted years

Plastic official

We’re all just playing games

Dressed up like our parents

Wide eyed and staring

Always naming names

Always laying blame

Killing sons and sacrificing daughters

Punishing the children for the sins of their fathers

Don't know what we're doing don't know where we're going

Middle of the summer but because of us it's snowing

Reality TV more real than we feel

Show appreciation, before the altar we kneel

Always at the mercy of the riches of the few

Why do you think we're happy when we find someone new

Celebrity obsession

Glittering possession

What isn't ours we must have

Grubby little fingers

Snatching someone's dinner

Absurd but we forget to laugh

Suburban soccer moms

Phones and tracksuits on

Baking store bought sweets

Starbucks in their hand

Watching football from the stands

Giving their kids dog treats

Punishing the children for the sins of their fathers

Angels of hell and demons from heaven

We don't notice the war, not paying attention

Locked in a trance burying our emotions

Day to day routine, just going through the motions

Always at the mercy of the riches of the few

Why do you think we're happy when we find someone new

Phonies fakes and liars

Crocodile smiles

Fake it till you make it they say

Dig our heads in the sand

They’ll never understand

Putting ignorance on display

Nobody cares

I know it’s not fair

But we smile through our pain anyway

I’ve made better friends with people I’ve met minutes ago

Than with people I’ve known my whole life and thought I used to know

I lost out on the chance to be an all american star

Cause I fought authority, I turned it into a war

Preachers teaching lies and teachers preaching silence

Repudiating those that stand in defiance

Always at the mercy of the riches of the few

Someone new that we can burn down, take their corpses away

Someone new that we can love, someone new that we can hate
