INTERCOMMUNICATION REPORT N1872838382. SORNA-ZONE 8
Date: June 3rd, 3289
Today is a Thursday like any other, yet different. It's the day of Kayn's funeral, an event that has captured the attention of the entire galaxy. The Alliance has its eyes centered on Xernas, and most intercommunicative transmissions are focused on that world at this precise moment. However, my work as a communicator compels me to cover multiple topics simultaneously.
Lieutenant Kaido Rox brought me to a world that, though I knew it from videos and documentaries, being here in person feels... strange. Sorna is a desert-like planet, with a blood-red sky and two suns that give it an exotic yet threatening appearance.
It's already 2 p.m., and I've just witnessed the presentation of Unit A1. Kaido brought me here to supervise the transmission of these young recruits to the galaxy through the Military's communication network. I'm unclear on his intention, but the pay is good, and they've assured me a bonus for every Alliance planet that accepts the transmission. That's why I'm making this report—to have a record of today, just in case.
Transmission Start: Five, four, three, two, one...
A blue screen appears on the television. The Military's logo flashes briefly, followed by a catchy tune playing over the "Defense and Strength" slogan, ending with a black screen. Then, a jovial voice clears its throat.
"Welcome, one and all, to 'Heroes of the Stars,' the reality show that will bring you all the adventures and mishaps of Unit A1's new recruits! In today's premiere, we'll meet these young heroes who've joined to protect the Alliance from demonic threats. Get ready to learn their stories, talents, and, of course, their entertaining personalities!"
The camera focuses on the group of previously introduced recruits.
"We have here Ren Takagi, the party mage from Saiton! Isn't he adorable with that carefree smile? Seems he was born for fame."
Ren winks at the camera and blows a kiss, showcasing his natural charisma.
"Then we have the Windrider twins: the shy yet powerful Takemichi, and the handsome defender Takeru."
Takemichi blushes as Takeru protectively drapes an arm over his sister's shoulders, showing their closeness and complicity.
"And let's not forget the mysterious Kurosawa Kamo. What real motives brought her here? Will we uncover the secrets behind that cold facade?"
Kurosawa frowns at the camera, arms crossed, her intense and enigmatic gaze unwavering.
The camera now focuses on Kai Zamira, the warrior from Arcadia.
"Kai Zamira! The fierce warrior from Arcadia who has come to defend her homeworld's honor. With those muscles and defiant look, I wouldn't want to meet her in a dark alley, eh?" the host jokes.
Kai flexes a bicep and growls at the camera with a challenging smile, showcasing her strength and indomitable spirit.
"But don't let her tough looks fool you! We have intel that our warrior has a sensitive, romantic side. True or just rumors?"
Kai's eyes go wide, and she vigorously shakes her head as the host laughs.
"Moving on to another recruit... Reiko Sato, the wise navigator from the seas of Akuar. With that serene, mystical expression, she almost seems like a sea witch, doesn't she?"
Reiko calmly smiles and gives a slight bow, her presence tranquil and majestic.
"They say Reiko masters ancient aquatic spells capable of controlling the tides. We'll have to ask her for a demonstration in a future episode!"
"And how could we forget the dashing cowboy Dustin McCoy!" The camera now focuses on the burly rancher, who winks at the camera. "With those muscular arms and that roguish smile, I'm sure the ladies of the Alliance are already swooning over him."
Dustin laughs and mimics throwing an invisible lasso with his hat, charming the audience with his casual attitude.
"But watch out! Word is this cowboy's heart already has an owner. Who could the lucky lady be?"
Dustin wags his finger, and the host feigns disappointment.
"Moving on to a more... conflictive element. Zoran Krasic, the recruit from the mines of Gorn-7. That scowling look and those menacing tattoos don't lie. This guy's scary!"
Zoran growls and spits on the ground, defiantly crossing his arms.
"We'll have to watch out for Zoran. Rumor has it he has a very turbulent past and a deep grudge against a certain family of ranchers... True or just hearsay? We'll have to find out!"
The camera takes a wide shot of the recruits, and then the host proceeds to conduct personal interviews with each of them, starting with Ren.
The camera focuses on Ren, who flashes a roguish smile as he adjusts his hair. The host approaches him.
"Ren Takagi, the party mage from Saiton. What made you decide to join the Military?"
Ren chuckles softly. "I've always loved adventure and fame. I want to do something important with my life. Protecting the Alliance sounds pretty epic, doesn't it?"
"I've heard you have a rather unique ability. Could you show us?"
Ren smiles and waves his hand. Closing his eyes, he whispers ancient words. A bluish light glows around his hands, intensifying until a small fairy appears, floating in the air. She has translucent wings, silver hair, and large, curious eyes. The fairy smiles and alights on Ren's shoulder.
"This is Numa," says Ren. "She's one of my most reliable summons. She can aid in combat and heal my comrades."
The host looks at Numa, impressed.
"Incredible! How did you master this ability?"
Ren replies, "Lots of training. In Saiton, we have a great tradition of mages, so I had good teachers. But it's also something innate - part of who I am."
The camera zooms in on Numa flapping her wings and emitting a tinkling laugh. The host turns to the camera.
"Folks, we've witnessed a magical demonstration from Ren Takagi. I can't wait to see how he utilizes this ability on upcoming missions!"
With a wave of his hand, Ren makes Numa vanish in a flash of light. The host addresses the Windrider twins.
"Thank you, Ren. Now let's meet the Windrider twins! Takemichi, Takeru, could you come over here?"
The twins approach, Takemichi shyly trying to hide slightly behind her brother while Takeru maintains a protective stance by her side.
"Takeru, Takemichi, thanks for being here. Takeru, I'll start with you. What motivated you to join the Military?"
Takeru smiles confidently. "I've always felt a responsibility to protect the weak. Our family has a long warrior tradition, and when Takemichi and I got the chance to join, I didn't hesitate. I want to be the force defending the Alliance while ensuring my sister's safety."
The host nods, impressed by Takeru's determination.
"And you, Takemichi. We know you're the shyer of the two, but what drove you to join this adventure?"
Blushing deeper, Takemichi glances at her brother before speaking.
"I've always wanted to help people, but I'm not as strong as Takeru. I joined because I knew together we could make a difference. He provides the strength, and I'm here to support him and help however I can. It's...our way of staying united and protecting others."
The host smiles warmly.
"It's wonderful to see such a strong sibling bond. Takeru, could you tell us about your abilities and how they complement Takemichi's?"
Takeru nods. "I specialize in close-quarters combat and defensive tactics. My strength and endurance allow me to engage enemies on the front lines and shield my comrades. Takemichi, on the other hand, has unique support abilities. She can quickly analyze situations and provide us crucial intel in the field. Her talent for support and healing are amazing"
"Takeru, you mentioned specializing in close combat and defense. But what really intrigues me are rumors of you having a very special voice. Could you tell us more about that?"
Takeru grins mysteriously and replies with a wink, "My voice? Well, they do say it's quite unique. But that's a secret I prefer to keep for now. You'll have to wait and see it for yourselves in action during missions."
The host feigns disappointment jokingly. "Oh come on! Can't you at least give us a little hint? The audience is dying to know more."
Takeru shakes his head, keeping his enigmatic smile.
"Sorry, but I'd rather maintain the mystery for now. It would ruin the surprise. But I promise it'll be worth it when you see it."
The host nodded, pretending to accept Takeru's answer for the moment. Then he turned towards the camera with an expression of excitement.
"Viewers, we've heard something truly controversial from Takeru Windrider here. This young mage has declared that he won't mindlessly slaughter demons!"
He paused dramatically, letting those words sink in for the audience. Then he turned back to Takeru.
"Takeru, that's a highly contentious stance within the Military. Can you explain your reasons for holding such a different mentality from many other recruits?"
Takeru nodded calmly, preparing to argue his position.
"You see, I was taught from a young age to respect all forms of life. Demons are intelligent, sentient beings, not mere beasts. Many are peaceful and pose no threat. So I won't attack them unless it's strictly necessary to defend the Alliance."
"But demons are our ancestral enemies," the host countered skeptically. "They've been the cause of countless wars and losses over the centuries."
Takeru shook his head. "Not all demons are evil. There are factions seeking peace, just as there are humans and other races that cause conflict. I'll fight if I must, but with honor and mercy. Not in mindless slaughter."
Takemichi nodded shyly, supporting his brother's words. The host shook his head in disbelief.
"That's a highly controversial stance, Takeru. We'll see how the audience reacts to your principles, so...different from the Military norm."
The host turned to Reiko with a friendly smile. "Reiko, tell us about your life on Akuar and what it was like growing up on such a fascinating planet."
Reiko nodded calmly and began speaking in her soft, melodic voice.
"On Akuar, we're deeply connected to the ocean from birth. Our islands are scattered across vast blue seas, and the water is our source of life. As a child, I learned to navigate, fish, and respect my people's ancient traditions."
She paused, as if evoking cherished memories.
"I remember spending hours by the shore, listening to the gentle lapping of waves and the songs my grandmother taught me. Our chants are an ancestral legacy connecting us to the sea depths and the aquatic spirits inhabiting our waters."
The host nodded, captivated. "I've heard about your unique ability. Rumor has it your voice can produce extraordinary magical effects. Could you give us a demonstration?"
Reiko gave a slight smile. "Of course. My singing comes from the heart of Akuar and has the power to calm even the most turbulent waters."
She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. Then she began a soft, ethereal melody, almost hypnotic. Her voice flowed like ocean waves, rising and falling in serene rhythm. As she sang, a faint blue glow emanated from her body, enveloping the surrounding area.
Suddenly, small droplets of water began materializing in the air, forming a shimmering mist that danced around Reiko in time with her chant. It was a subtle yet impressive display of her control over aquatic elements.
When the song ended, the mist dissipated gently and Reiko opened her eyes with a serene expression.
The host applauded, marveling. "That was simply beautiful, Reiko! Your voice is truly magical. You'll undoubtedly be an invaluable asset to Unit A1 on their missions."
Reiko smiled humbly.
The host turned to Reiko with renewed interest. "Reiko, I've heard fascinating rumors about your origins. Word is, despite growing up on the entirely aquatic world of Akuar, your true lineage comes from an ancient warrior bloodline. Could you tell us more about that?"
Reiko lowered her gaze for a moment, as if gathering courage to speak. Finally, she nodded slowly.
"It's true. My mother was a renowned warrior from Arcadia, one of the finest talents of her generation. But she betrayed her people for love of my father, a navigator from Akuar. They fled together and sought refuge on the most remote islands, where I was born and raised."
She paused, memories reflecting in her eyes.
"From a very young age, my mother trained me in Arcadia's ancient martial arts. But I also learned the peaceful ways of my father and his people. I grew up with two opposing worlds warring within me: my mother's warrior spirit and my father's oceanic serenity."
The host listened intently, captivated by her tale. "And how did you reconcile those two sides of yourself?"
Reiko gave a small smile. "Through singing. I discovered my voice had the power not just to calm the waters, but to influence the minds and emotions of those around me. I can inspire peace or incite battle with my melodies. It's a gift that allows me to maintain the balance between warrior fury and oceanic tranquility."
A light sea breeze ruffles Reiko's hair as she extends her hand.
"I came to Military Academy to fully master this ancient power. And to honor my mother's sacrifice in abandoning her life for love. I won't allow her legacy to be lost."
The host nods, impressed by the depth of Reiko's words.
"I'm sure you won't! Now let's move on to our next recruit...Kurosawa Kamo," he announces, shifting towards the enigmatic newcomer.
Kurosawa regards the host with an intense, challenging gaze.
"Kurosawa, your peers say you have an air of mystery about you. What brought you to the Academy, and what motivates you?"
Kurosawa folds his arms across his chest, voice firm. "My reasons are personal. But
I have a mission to fulfill. The Academy gives me the resources and training I need to achieve it. I'm not interested in reality shows or fame - just efficiency and results."
The host swallows hard, clearly a bit intimidated.
"Understood. Could you tell us a bit about your abilities?"
Kurosawa's brow furrows slightly before he responds. "My ability is something I'd prefer not to fully reveal just yet. But I can say it's related to shadow manipulation." A pause as he stares directly at the host. "Let me give you all a small glimpse."
Extending his hand, the shadows around Kurosawa suddenly begin warping and twisting. Slowly, they condense into tiny, worm-like shadow creatures swarming around him, emitting faint growls.
The host gapes as the shadow beasts swirl around Kurosawa before dissipating into nothingness. Kurosawa's gaze is hard, impassive.
"That's all I'll say for now. I trust my abilities will speak for themselves when the time comes to face threats against the Alliance."
The host gulps nervously. "Th-thank you for that impressive demonstration,
Kurosawa. You're certainly a very special and intriguing recruit. The audience won't be able to wait to see more of your shadows in action!"
Turning to Dustin with a smile, the host continues, "Dustin, the dashing ranch hand from the McCoy spreads. What motivated you to join forces with the Military?"
Dustin adjusts his hat, drawling reply carrying his distinctive twang. "Well partner, bein' a McCoy means protectin' what's ours. These ranches 'n herds've belonged to my family for generations. We earned every piece o' land with the sweat o' our brows. When I heard 'bout the demon threat, I knew I had to defend our way o' life at all costs."
The host nods, interested. "And what abilities have you been honing? I hear you have a special gift with magic."
Dustin's smirk is lopsided as he snaps his fingers, a small dancing flame appearing in his palm. "This here's my Prairie Fire. I can control the flames, shape 'em to my will. It's a powerful weapon, sure, but it also lets me start campfires, burn brush, even cauterize wounds out in the field."
He makes a motion with his hand and the flame grows larger, casting its glow across his face.
The presenter watches, impressed.
"A cowboy with mastery over fire! Now that's truly one-of-a-kind. Say Dustin, I have to ask you about what Zoran said earlier. What's your take on his accusations against your family?"
Dustin's expression darkens.
"Look, I won't deny there were some...misunderstandings in the past. But that was a long time ago. The McCoys have changed, just like the Alliance. We're not those greedy ranchers exploiting everyone anymore. Now we value equality and justice."
He shakes his head regretfully.
"Zoran needs to let go of that resentment. Here, we're a team fighting for a greater good. If we stay trapped in old grudges, we'll never move forward. I extend the hand of friendship to that young man. I hope one day he accepts it."
He claps the presenter on the shoulder.
"But enough with the sorrows. This adventure is only just beginning! Who knows what the future holds?"
Dustin grins carefreely, his characteristic good cheer returning.
The presenter approaches Zoran cautiously, sensing the tension in the burly recruit.
Zoran narrows his eyes at him, spitting onto the ground once more.
"Zoran, my friend, tell us - what brought you to the Military? You've got quite the...intimidating look, to put it mildly."
Zoran grunts, folding his arms.
"I didn't come here to make friends. I came to kick some demon ass. Those bastards ruined my life, so it's time I returned the favor."
The presenter swallows hard but maintains an interested expression.
"Could you elaborate on that? What did the demons do to you?"
Zoran's eyes darken and his jaw tightens.
"They murdered my family. All of them. We were miners on Gorn-7, working hard to make a living. Then one day, those beasts emerged from the depths and massacred everyone. I was the sole survivor of my family."
He pauses, fists clenched with rage.
"Since then, I've trained relentlessly. Forged my body into an unstoppable weapon. These muscles and scars are the price I've paid to gain the power to take those demons down once and for all."
The presenter regards Zoran, stunned by the intensity of his story.
"That sounds...devastating. I'm so sorry, Zoran. I understand your motivation better now. Could you tell us about your abilities and how you plan to use them against the demons?"
Zoran flashes a grim smile and gestures with his hand. Suddenly, a cloud of metallic dust glimmers in the air, condensing into a compact sphere spinning rapidly. With a harsh motion, the sphere transforms into a gleaming steel sword.
Zoran's face darkens with deep-seated hatred.
"The McCoys are the reason my people suffered so much. They monopolized Gorn's resources, leaving us with the scraps. When the demons attacked, they abandoned us to our fate. Many of mine died because of their greed."
He clenches his fists tightly.
"So when I see that McCoy bastard's face, all I can think of is all the lives his family ruined. He can pretend to be a good guy all he wants, but I know the truth."
His eyes blaze with visceral hatred.
"Sooner or later, I'll make sure the McCoys pay for what they did. This time, I won't extend a hand. I'll slap it right across their face."
The host took a step back, sensing waves of anger emanating from Zoran. "Well...it was certainly revealing to get your perspective, Zoran. It seems you have some unresolved scores to settle. Let's hope that, in time, you're able to move past that bitterness and focus solely on the Alliance's mission."
The host jotted down, (It's clear his desire for vengeance against the McCoys hasn't faded and could pose a major problem within the Unit down the line)
Turning to Kai Zamira, the imposing Arcadian warrior, the host remarked, "Kai, tell us, what drove you to join the Military? With muscles like those and that defiant attitude, I'd wager it wasn't an easy decision."
Folding her arms, Kai responded in a deep voice, "On Arcadia, we value honor and strength above all else. From childhood, I was trained in the ancient ways of war to defend my people. When the demon threat arose, I didn't hesitate for a moment. As a warrior, it's my duty to stop them at all costs."
"Impressive determination," the host admitted. "Could you show us some of your combat skills?"
Kai nodded and took a fighting stance. She executed a series of punch and kick maneuvers, displaying astonishing agility and power. Then, summoning her sword in a blinding flash, she delivered a devastating whirlwind attack, leaving a trail of energy in its wake.
Applauding in awe, the host exclaimed, "A true Arcadian warrior! Those moves were something to behold. Tell me, Kai, is there anything else you'd like to share with our audience? Any hidden talents or special skills?"
Kai blushed slightly and averted her gaze. "Well...there are rumors I have a more...sensitive side. But that's something I'd prefer to keep private, at least for now."
Chuckling, the host gave her a friendly pat on the shoulder. "No worries, warrior! We'll keep that little secret under wraps...unless the audience insists on knowing more."
Kai snorted and shook her head, though a faint smile played across her lips.
Finally, the host approached the last two recruits, Takeru and Takemichi Windrider.
"Takemichi, allow me to commend your bravery for stepping forward earlier. I know it wasn't easy for you, but you've displayed an admirable inner strength."
Blushing, Takemichi smiled shyly. "Th-Thank you. I may not be the bravest, but with
Takeru by my side, I feel I can overcome any fear."
Takeru gave her an affectionate nudge and a wink.
Turning to him, the host said, "And you, Takeru, you've really piqued my curiosity with that mysterious 'vocal ability' you mentioned. Won't you at least give us a little sample?"
Shaking his head, Takeru's enigmatic smile remained. "As I said before, I prefer to keep you in suspense. But I promise, when the time comes, it'll be a show worth waiting for."
"Very well, very well!" The host feigned resignation. "I suppose we'll have to wait for that moment to arrive. Though please, don't keep us hanging too long."
Takeru chuckled. "Don't worry, you'll find out soon enough. For now, I want you all to get to know Takemichi and me as people, not just our abilities."
Nodding, the host turned to the camera with a broad grin. "Well, folks, that's it for today! We've met the new and exciting recruits of Unit A1. Warriors, mages, navigators, and cowboys, all united to protect our beloved Alliance! In the coming episodes, we'll follow them closely through training and their first missions. Will they overcome the challenges they face? Might unexpected romances blossom or internal conflicts arise? Stay tuned to find out!"
After the interviews, the host jotted down, "It's clear half of them won't survive if they keep this up. Kaido, if you don't treat them like they are, your little game won't last long." He then shut off his equipment and wrapped up the show.
