This place is much like purgatory.

The peak of human misery.

The whole building is held together

By grime and filth and anguished screams.

Always appauling to behold.

On the warmest day still dark and cold.

No place on earth is more crowded

With sums of lost luggage and souls.

The waiting room is never washed,

The ticket office always locked,

And the table and fridge in the corner

Apparently count as a shop.

The floor is strewn with old receipts,

Pigeons walk in from off the street,

And no one even bats an eye

As they shit all over empty seats.

The only thing ever fixed or cleaned

Is the toilet door's pay machine.

Yet to have to pay to use such filth

Is a crime in the extreme.

The whole room has a corpse-like stink,

Graffiti covers everything,

And though there are three cubicles,

Only one is capable of locking.

Even outside there's no console,

For by the buses a horde patrols.

Clad in leopard print and hoodies,

Pale and gaunt, reeking of mould.

Like bandits waiting to attack

They'll pounce before you can react,

And grunt at you with pure disdain:

"Sorry lad, do you have a fag?"

The whole station can be surmised

By the look in the shopkeeper's eyes.

Sat in the corner, selling sweets,

He looks completely done with life.

And even as you leave this place,

It gives one last slap in the face;

As every bus, including yours,

Is always at least ten minutes late.
