They say all love stories start with a cute meet, well they were wrong, mine started with a tragedy.
Be prepared because not all love stories are about a boy and a girl falling in love, this one is just about two people falling in love. My name is Emily and this is my love story.201Please respect copyright.PENANAwNpQFRXozg
It was a friday night and I had just arrived home a few hours ago from school for the half term holidays so I had a whole week to spend with my parents before going back. My parents and I had just left the cinema where we watched "Spider-Man: No Way Home", I was wearing a white crop top, blue ripped jeans, and a black plaid shirt.
My head was leaning against the car window observing the night outside. The moon was way up in the dark sky and the stars were shining. Since I live in a big city observing the stars at night is almost impossible because of the city lights, so now and then, me and my parents go to the forest to watch the stars.
We usually have a picnic in the afternoon and spend the rest of the day swimming in the lake when it's hot or just playing games, at night we observe the constellations.
We have been doing it since I was probably 8 or 10 almost every month, except in the winter because it's too cold. Because of that now I know almost every constellation, star, and planet, my parents made sure I learned that and to identify poisonous plants, in case the younger me decided to eat something without asking.
I look to the other side of the car and see a bright light from the window closer than it should be that's the last thing I remember before feeling a sharp pain on my side and everything went black.
I woke up again after what I thought were a few minutes, feeling dizzy and my head pounding I reached out my hand to touch it, that's when I realized I was bleeding. Looking around in confusion, I realize we just had a car accident with another car.
Our car was upside down and the windows were all broken, from my window, I could see the other car. It had beaten in a street cone so the front was dented.
At that moment the realization of what just happened hit me.
-Mom, Dad, Mom. - I start screaming their names in desperation.
I took a few deep breaths trying to remember what my parents had told me to do in this situations
I tilt my feet to touch the front seat, I put one hand on the ground and slowly unbuckle my seat belt. The moment I did it, I fell to the ground.
I started looking for my phone phonetically when I found it I thanked god that it still worked and dialed 911.
-911, what's your emergency?
-Please help me- I said crying -My parents and I just had an accident
-It's ok sweetie. My name is Betty and I'm going to help. What is your name?
-I'm Emily- The tears were still streaming down my face.
-Hi Emily. Can you tell me where you are?
I looked around phonetically but all I could see was the asphalt of the road.
-I don't know our car is upside down.
-It's ok. I'm locating your phone and help is on the way. You need to breathe and stay calm. Do you have your seat belt on or did you take it out already?
-I took it out to reach for my phone.
-Can you get out of the car? - Betty asked.
-I think so. Let me see. I can open the door. - I said opening the door and stepping out before doing that I grabbed my air pods so that I could talk to Betty. I put my phone on the floor and put the headphones on.
-That's good. Can you tell me how many people are in the accident?
-My mom, my dad and there's another car. I think there's a woman inside but I can't see very well and there's...
The moment I look to the back seat my eyes widen in shock. There was a baby; it probably wasn't more than 8 months. The baby opened her eyes when she hear me talking and started crying.
-What's that sound, Emily? - Betty asked.
-It's a baby...there's a baby in the back seat. - I said going around the car and opening the door.
As soon as we lock eyes she stopped crying lifting her little arms and I pick her up.
-Emily, Emily do you hear me?
-Sorry, what? - I asked realizing I had zoned out.
-I have been calling for you. Is everything ok? I can hear that the baby stopped crying.
-Yes, I pick her up. What do I do now?
-Can you please tell me how your parents are?
-Oh my god! I completely forgot. What if they aren't ok?
-Emily listen to me if I can tell the ambulance about their situation they can be prepared to deal with it.
-Ok. I think I can do that.
I started walking to the car with the baby still in my arms. I opened the passenger's door and started calling my mom.
-Mom, mom please wake. Dad, dad can you hear me?
Slowly my mom's eyes started opening and she looked at me.
-Emily, sweetie, what's going on?
-It's ok mom we just had an accident but I'm ok. - I said - Betty my mom is ok.
-That's good Emily. What about your dad?
-I don't know. Mom I'm going to see dad, I'll be right back.
I moved to the driver's side, placing the baby on my hip so that I could hold her better.
-Dad, can you hear me? Dad! - I was screaming, desperately trying to get my dad to wake up.
That's when I heard it. The sound I was waiting to hear, the ambulance sirens. I left my dad's side and holding the baby even tighter to me, I ran to the road and started waving my arm in the air while speaking to Betty.
-They're here, the ambulance arrived.
-Emily, I need you to listen very carefully to what I'm about to say. Whatever you do you need to listen to them, to everything they say because that's the best way you can help them.
-I'll do that. Thank you, Betty, for everything.
-I'm happy to help. Take care, sweetie.
-I'll. Bye.
I hang up the phone and start waving one arm in the air to the ambulance.
-We are going to be okay, everything is going to be okay. - I said more to myself than to my parents
As soon as the ambulance and the firefighter truck arrived, people started getting out of the cars and a paramedic came over to me.
-Hey, honey come over here. What's your name?
-Emily. - I responded looking around trying to understand if my parent were okay
-And your parents? - She asked as she started to clean my head. I winced from the pain as she did the curative.
-Mary and Robert. Are they going to be okay?
-I promise we are going to do everything we can to help them. But you can ask again in the hospital. Do you have any specific pain?
-My left side hurts a little bit.
-Can you pull your shirt up a little so that I can take a look?- I lifted my top and she started palping my side. I flinched from the pain and she put the top back down.- The pain is from the impact so you will probably have pain for a few days and a bruise, but that's it.
-Thank you.
-Is she your baby sister?
-No, I found her in the other car where there is a woman. - I responded pointing to the other car.
-Can you hold her while I see if she is ok? - The paramedic asked. She started auscultating her and checking for injuries. All I could do was watch the firefighters work trying to see if my parents were okay. No, I had to think they were going to be okay because that's the truth right?
-Now you are going with the firefighters to the hospital and I'm going to help them treat your parents. Okay?
-Okay.
I walked to the firefighters' and got inside the car. The travel to the hospital looked like an eternity. I couldn't stop thinking about my parents and whether they would be okay if they were even alive. The memories of the accident flush through my head along with tears that I quickly cleaned.
As soon as we arrived at the hospital the baby was taken away from my arms. I watched as she cried while they took her away until she was to far away to hear it.
A nurse whose name I understood was Marilyn put me in a room and after examining me gave me painkillers.
-Do you want anything to eat?- she asked.
-No, I'm good. Do you know anything about my parents?
-No, I'm sorry. The last thing I knew was that they were being treated, but I'm sure they were going to be okay, after all, they have a beautiful daughter to come back to.
-Thank you, Marilyn.
-I'm going to get you a pill so that you can sleep better.
-Ok, thanks.
As soon as I took them, I cried until I was asleep, hoping my parents would be there when I woke up.
