"It's beautiful, Princess" Susan exclaimed while her and Lucy were looking around the tent in awe.
"I think were way past you calling me Princess, Susan" Y/n giggled
"Right yeah sorry, Y/n" Susan chuckled. Lucy walked over to my bed and observed it closely, Y/n wondered what she was thinking.
"Do you live here on your own?" Lucy finally asked. Y/n was shocked by the question and the other siblings turned to look at her with wonder on their faces. Y/n nodded and looked to the ground. There was silence, Y/n could tell the siblings felt bad for her but she didn't want their pity, Y/n always liked being alone. She never really allowed herself to get close to anyone (Mr Tumnus the exception of course) until the siblings arrived. Something changed in her and she'd forgotten all about her past and why she doesn't let people in. Until now.
"I like it better this way. Here I have peace and silence but when I'm out there it's chaos and I'm always the one responsible for everything. Sometimes being alone is... calming" Y/n sat down on her bed next to Lucy and again she saw the same look of pity on their faces. She hated it, being felt sorry for. So Y/n tried to change the subject.
"Well your outfits are under the bed, there's one for each of you. Aslan would like you to put them on and start your training" Susan pulled the outfits from underneath Y/n's bed and their faces lit up with excitement.
"If you go through there, you'll be able to get changed" Y/n points to the room to their left and Lucy and Susan walk inside and start getting changed. Y/n's attention turned to Peter who was sitting on the sofa looking at his sword. Y/n went and sat down next to him, she was going to say something but she didn't know what to say that would make him feel any better. Y/n felt hopeless.
"Do you think he'll be okay?" Peter finally spoke. Y/n looked into Peter's eyes and she could see he was upset and scared. Y/n knew that getting Edmund back would be a challenge but she trusted Aslan and all Y/n could do was stay positive.
"Edmund's strong. He'll fight till his limit. Plus I trust Aslan with every bit of my heart" Y/n smiled trying to stay positive and make Peter look on the bright side of things but it didn't help. Peter gave her a half smile and went back to looking at the sword.
"You don't always have to be strong for them Peter. You might be the oldest but that doesn't mean you don't matter as much, it actually means you matter the most. Your the reason that the Pevensies are still together. You're the glue of your family and you might think that they hate you but actually you are the reason there are where they are now. You need time to breath too Peter." Y/n moved closer to Peter and placed her hand on the back of his head. Peter turned to look at her and their faces were just inches away from each other. They looked into each other's eyes and Peter smiled.
"How are you so positive all the time?" He asked not moving an inch still staring into Y/n's eyes. She took a deep breath and looked down at her hands that were now placed in her lap.
"I have to be. If I let the bad thoughts through, they'll consume me and I'll break. The Princess can't do that" Peter grabbed her hands and she looked up into his eyes occasionally looking down at his lips.
"You can do that with me." Peter spoke softly, he looked into Y/n's eyes and down at her lips then started slowly moving closer to her face. Y/n's heart was beating out of her chest, you could hear it from a mile away. Y/n knew what was about to happen and she wanted to move away, it's not that she didn't want to kiss Peter because she did. Badly. But by kissing him is letting him in and she didn't know if he was ready for that. Ready to know who she really was. Would he still accept her? Would he still want to kiss me? These thoughts were consuming Y/n's brain but she couldn't pull away. Peter placed his hand on her cheek and this time they were both moving closer. Y/n closed her eyes and let her thoughts fade away and then-
"Princess!" Oreius barged into the tent. Y/n and Peter jumped and pulled away from each other. Now feeling awkward and embarrassed Y/n stood up to avoid Peter's eyes.
"What is it Oreius?" She demanded. Y/n was slightly annoyed but thankful he barged in. Peter was not ready to know who she was. Not yet.
"Uh, sorry your Majesty. It's just Aslan would like to see Peter on the hill" Oreius was looking down not meeting Y/n's eyes suggesting he was feeling awkward too.
"He just needs to get changed. He'll be there soon" Oreius nodded and bowed before rushing out of the tent.
"Y/n-" Peter started but Y/n rushed to get his outfit and handed it to him before he could say another word.
"Get changed. I'll walk you over when you're ready" Before Peter could say anything else Y/n quickly turned around and left the tent. Y/n let out a huge sigh and walked over to the river. Peter sighed to himself in disappointment. Then Lucy and Susan left the room they were in and smiling at Peter, he knew they were watching.
"Shut it" He said. The girls laughed and went to walk outside to join Y/n.
"You might wanna kiss her before we leave. It might be the only kiss you get from a girl" Susan teased. Peter gave a sarcastic smile before watching the girls leave. While he was getting changed he couldn't stop thinking about the almost-kiss. He's wanted to kiss Y/n since the moment they met and that was his only chance to do it. He needed to say something to her.
Peter left the tent in his armour and sword in hand. Lucy ran over and hugged him and Y/n smiled at him but when they caught each other's gaze Y/n quickly turned away. Peter felt torn on what to do.
"Right girls, I need to take Peter to Aslan. You guys can start training with oreius by the targets." Y/n pointed towards the five targets and the girls ran off in that direction. Y/n took a deep breath and smiled at Peter. She just needed to forget this ever happened.
"Ready to go" Y/n smiled and Peter nodded not saying a word. They both walked through the forest in complete silence, neither of them said anything, they didn't know what they could say. It was awkward. When they got to the bottom of the hill. Y/n stopped and pointed towards where Aslan was standing.
"Aslan's there, right at the very top. I imagine he'll have some very wise words for you" Y/n giggled and turned around quickly to avoid talking to him anymore but Peter grabbed her hand and she wipped around. Peter stepped closer and Y/n's heart started pounding again. Not like this. Not now.
"Y/n, I-" Peter placed his hand on her cheek again but Y/n wasn't letting him this time.
"Please don't say anything else" Y/n looked up at Peter and he looked hurt yet confused. Y/n hated seeing him like this let alone making him feel like this but she had to do it.
"We need to focus on getting your brother back, Peter." Y/n hoped this would make Peter stop but he placed his hand on her waist and leant forward. Y/n turned the other way dodging Peter's kiss.
"Please don't." Y/n said softly, she took Peter's hand that was placed on her cheek and moved it away.
"We just need to forget this ever happened." Y/n looked around to see if anyone was watching and someone was. Alsan. Now Y/n was even more embarrassed. All Y/n wanted to do was get out of this situation as quickly as possible.
"Y/n please-" Peter pleaded but she didn't listen she pushed him back and look down. Y/n couldn't bring herself to meet his eyes.
"Aslan's waiting for you" And just like that Y/n turned around and jumped on the nearest horse she could, riding back towards the forest. Peter was hurt as he watched Y/n ride away. He turned towards Aslan and saw him watching.
"Great" He sighed to himself.
When Peter got up to the hill Aslan was looking in the distance at a castle.
"That is Cair Paravel of the four thrones, one of which you will sit at High King" Peter stayed silent.
"You doubt the prophecy" Aslan turned towards Peter and he looked to the ground in shame.
"No, it's just that... I'm not who you think I am"
"Peter Pevensie formerly of Finchley. Beaver also said you wanted to turn him into a hat." Peter lightly chuckled.
"There is a deep magic that rules over Narnia. It defines right from wrong and helps us fulfill destinies, both yours and mine"
"I don't think I'll be able to run this war" Peter looked towards the castle in despair.
"You were able to get your family here." Aslan reassured, studying Peter's every expression carefully
"Not all of them. Half the journey wasn't even me, we were only able to get here because of...Y/n's help" Peter hesitated at Y/n's name, clearly still hurt from the deflected kiss.
"I will do what I can for Edmund and what I saw moments ago is not my concern but you must know Y/n has been through her own war's and she has troubles of letting people in. It took her 3 years to warm up to me. She'll come to you when she's ready." Aslan sat down and looked right at Peter.
"That's what Beaver said." Peter smiled slightly.
"Let her come to you. Don't force it or she'll push you away." Peter nodded and sat down on the grass looking into the distance.
Y/n was sat at the river again, running her hand along the water. Her mind repeating over and over what happened with Peter. She hated herself for pushing him away but she couldn't let him in, not yet. Y/n swayed her hands along the trees and the leaves came together and formed silhouettes of her and Peter on the sofa in her tent. The silhouettes moved closer and just as they were about to kiss, Y/n blew the leaves away. Then in a split second she heard Susan's horn being blown from afar. Y/n whipped around and started running towards where the sound came from. Even though things are awkward with Peter, she'll never let that get in the way of their protection.
Y/n will protect them with her life.
