“Not again!” Adelle yelled in frustration. She had just broken up with her now ex-boyfriend Charles. She had many dreams, and finding a good man was one of them. To be honest, that ex-boyfriend of hers never really treated her right. Always so controlling, annoying and manipulative. Pretending to love her, then making himself look lke the victim. He was like a man-baby. Never took responsibility for his actions, never put in effort for school and kept bragging about his non-existent accomplishments. Nothing Adelle wanted in a man.
She promised herself she wouldn’t cry this time but her emotions got the better of her. She found her eyes welling up with hot tears that scorched her skin as it rolled down her cheeks. Adelle stared into the distance, reflecting on her actions.

Adelle’s POV:
My parents were right. Now isn’t the time for dating. I swear I’ll never date again. Now how am I supposed to distract myself from those popular kids.

Adelle’s thoughts were messy and all over the place. She spent that night just trying to get over Charles. She then made a phone call which saved her tears. Her cloudy head cleared up after confiding in her best friend Shanice. Shanice knocked some sense into Adelle and opened up her eyes. Adelle had finally acquired the clarity her lost soul has been longing for.

Adelle’s POV:
It’s so disgusting thinking about Charles. Why am I even crying over a guy like this? Shanice really knocked some sense into me. I don’t even know why I ever considered a boy like Charles.

Chapter II: Back to School
Story’s timeline: 03/01/2023
Narrator:
Now I’m sure you’ve been wondering who those popular kids are. They are a group of obnoxious classmates who often make fun of people for no reason. They are rowdy and terribly loud. Adelle hates them and gets angry whenever she sees them.

“New year new me. I will not hate my classmates anymore.” Adelle thought to herself as she stepped into her 11th grade class. She kept repeating that phrase in her head. After her messy break up with Charles, she and Shanice spent so much time together and cheered up so much to the point Adelle didn’t even remember she had hatred in her heart.

Adelle opened the classroom door and her jaw dropped. Not in excitement but in sheer horror. Her nasty classmates had not changed . She again, remembered why she disliked them. She rolled her eyes and scoffed at Charles and his friends play fighting at the back of the class. She plonked herself on a random new seat, took out her phone and began messaging Shanice about what insignificant thing she had done over the holidays. Not knowing that the seat was the best choice she’d ever made.

Shanice sat next to Adelle and immediately after, the two almost-siblings started joking around and telling silly jokes about Charles and playing hand games with each other. The rowdy class became silent as they only focussed on themselves. They needed neither popularity nor approval of the class. They only needed themselves.

Adelle and Shanice were so engrossed in their fun they didn’t notice Mdm Wilson walking into the classroom. “Class, settle down, we will begin our-” “Adelle…You sat on my favourite seat! I probably didn’t tell y’all about my new lucky draw!” exclaimed Mdm Wilson excitedly.

This was a normal occurrence in Mdm Wilson’s homeroom class. She loved planning lame surprises and whoever was the first to discover a surprise she sets up win a “prize”. Well, Mdm Wilson thinks it’s a prize but it’s more of an inconvenience. Adelle was reluctant to hear about the “prize” she’d be getting. Mdm Wilson’s “prizes” were often silly and seemingly good. But

“You will be in charge of making the class neat after school. For extra credit in your GPA as work experience!” said Mdm Wilson gleefully. Adelle’s eyes fell and her jaw dropped.
