The next morning, the rest of my family returned to the beach. Haylynn and I swam out to the flamingo colony. I basked in the sun on my throne. Haylynn played with Gabbi all day long. We were allowed to come back to the beach after dinner. I talked to my flamingos. Suddenly, Haylynn came running to me. “Scottlynn!! Gabbi!! She’s gone!!” she screamed, frantically.
I was so shocked I fell off my throne. “Then let’s look for her!!” I replied. We searched for hours. Haylynn and I sat down in the water. Our eyes puddled up. Spicy nudged me. “What, Spicy?” I asked. Spicy knelt down.
“She, she, wants you to fly on her I think!!” Haylynn exclaimed.
I gasped. Flying! On a flamingo! My dreams were coming true! Haylynn boarded Poppy. Van suddenly came running toward us.
“Girls! Wait- what? What in the actual bucket are you doing?” he asked.
“What’s it look like we’re doing?” I said, sassily. “Pick a flamingo and get on,”
“Jeez, okay,” Van sighed. He climbed aboard Bob and we were off.
We flapped above the dark, midnight waters, searching endlessly for one, rather tiny, coral and white flamingo. “This isn’t working. We are flying 50 feet above the ocean looking for a chick. We need to spread out,” I explained.
“You’re right. Haylynn should look underwater, Scottlynn, you can search the shore, and I’ll look anywhere, basically.” Van explained.
I searched the bay with no luck. I began to tremble. It was probably 1 or 2 in the morning. I began to wonder if I’d ever find Gabbi.
I woke up with a start. I dozed off in the water! I could’ve spent that time searching!
“Hey, you, human,” a strange, high-pitched voice screeched.
I turned. A seagull was speaking to me!
“Wh-who are you? And how can you speak?” I squeaked.
“Don’t mind that, but I think I have found your unique flamingo chick. The baby chick pond, search there. Cut my beak off if I’m wrong. And call me Snickers,” he explained quickly. I am so buying a stopwatch when I come home. It will get its use.
“Haylynn!! Van!! Snickers told me where Gabbi is!!” I screamed. Haylynn sprinted to me.
“Mom told you to stop hiding candy bars, Scottlynn!” Haylynn scolded.
“It was a seagull, he spoke to me and told me to search the flamingo chick pond,” I exclaimed.
“Seagulls don’t talk, but we’ll search there,” Van said.
“You two are quite opinionated, don’t believe a thing, do you?” Snickers squawked. “Go look in the chick pond like I said!”
“Sassy seagull, like you Scottie,” Van mumbled.
We sprinted to the chick pond. Gabbi was playing with the other flamingo chicks.
“Yay!! Gabbi finally has friends!” Haylynn shouted.
