The next day, everyone was eating some delicious chili for dinner. It was Sunday, and our flight was going to takeoff tomorrow. “Tonight, we are going to pack up,” Mom stated. I coughed. That was a spicy bite of chili!
“Man! I forgot to buy a swimsuit,” Aunt Holly sighed.
“You’re buying a swimsuit? Just go to the beach in a T-shirt and jeans. Simple,” Mum-Mum (my grandma) said.
“Nah, I’ll buy one,” Holly said, as she took her bowl of chili and set it on the kitchen counter.
After dinner, Haylynn and I did many attempts to pack our suitcase. After I saw Haylynn trying to shove all seven Harry Potter books into her suitcase, I sighed.
“You seriously think you’ll find time to read every single one of these books? Haylynn, for goodness sake, we are on vacation!!” I pointed out.
“Just got way too attached to them. I mean, what if someone breaks into the house? Steals these?” she explained, quite dramatically. I shook my head.
“And what is the possibility of someone breaking into our house and stealing Harry Potter books. I doubt they are worth much money each,” I quipped.
Haylynn could get attached to any book, even one that explains how to solve 2+2.
I turned on my laptop and looked up a video on YouTube of how to pack a suitcase. After lots of laughs, Van opened the door. “You two aren’t even done yet? I was going to ask for help, but…” Van laughed.
“Come join us! It’s a packing party!” Haylynn exclaimed. Van walked into the room, dragging his suitcase behind him. He was bringing basically just clothes, toothbrush, a fidget toy, his swimming trunks, a towel, hair gel, sunscreen, drawing tools, a small box of Legos, tablet, laptop, sunglasses, and glasses. Compared to what I was packing; flamingo blanket, flamingo toys, flamingo toothbrush, flamingo hairbrush, chapstick, a doll, flamingo books, drawing tools, swimsuit, a flamingo towel, sunscreen, tablet, laptop, sunglasses, glasses, camera, clothes, sun hat, a thin book of how to make different sand castles, hair ties, a water bottle, and my flamingo crown. Just in case I’d be Queen Scottie in real life.
The next day, we woke up earlier than ever. Before we left, Holly showed us the swimsuit she bought last night. It looked more like something a skydiver would wear rather than a swimsuit. It was a jumpsuit looking swimsuit. It was glittery green. “Going scuba diving, Holl?” Haylynn laughed.109Please respect copyright.PENANAlw5XCMmp3C
“I still can’t believe she bought a sparkly one. Dad would rather wear only underwear than a glitter covered jumpsuit to the beach,” Mum-Mum said.
Mom, Dad, and Haylynn were walking our three dogs, down to our neighbor down the street’s house. Our neighbor was going to watch them for the month. Holly helped Van and I into the car.
About half an hour later, we arrived at the airport. We got on the plane and took our seats. Not soon after, I dozed off…

I was standing in a crystal clear beach. I was far from the shore, when I turned around and saw a colony of flamingos in front of me. I was shocked. They looked at me, and flew away, knocking me into the water. I stood up and- I was back in the airplane. What in the world had just happened? “You dozed off, Scottie. We just landed,” Haylynn whispered. She helped me to my feet and we grabbed our suitcases. I wanted to tell Haylynn about my dream so bad- but I figured I’d embarrass myself if I did it in public, so, I decided to wait until we settled down in the hotel room.
Haylynn and I were alone in the hotel room the next morning while everyone else ordered breakfast to bring to the room. I told her every detail of the dream, even down to the fact that that my hair was in frizzy, messy, braids. But before Haylynn could reply, everyone returned with our waffles, muffins, eggs, and sausage.
